I've been looking for this for a while; how did the amygdalans on the Fear-Tainted Isle get there, and why are they there?

It's called the Fear Tainted Isle because it has, or used to have, a direct connection to the Plane of Fear. That's it, really. A couple of the quests go into a little bit more detail explaining that they managed to take over an old dragon temple, but none of it is really anything important. That's pretty much the bottom line of it all.

I actually don't remember anymore, since it's been years since I've completed the quests involving SoS and/or the raid zone on the island itself. I never thought it anything important.

The zone had quest NPCs on the first island, and the creatures there were mostly nonsensical and placed there because they were exotic and rarely scene or interacted with on Norrath. Sphinxes (Sphinxi?), Djinn, differently colored will-o-wisps, Giant Bixies (the ones found in Misty Thicket were tiny and virtually no threat and little importance to the quests in Rivervale or Misty Thicket), evil eyes, fairies, and other mystical creatures.

I vaguely remember something along the lines of them being there in an attempt to find a way back to the plane of fear. They were left on Norrath when the Gods closed access to the planes. How they managed to get into tthe overrealm i dunno but very least you have an idea why.

I'm a little late on this, but insofar as I recall, there's an Amygdalan deep in Sanctum of Scale who sheds a tiny bit of light on this. I think he's part of the Claymore questline, and in the midst of running around doing all his errands he'll at least explain that the Amygdalan are there because the portal to the Plane of Fear collapsed without warning when the planes were sealed, thus stranding them there. Now, what Cazic minions were doing in the Plane of Sky, he doesn't ever go into that. They seem to be dinking around in the Droag temple and Fear Tainted Isle mostly out of having absolutely nothing else to do.

Of course, this is also what happened to the Amydalan saps stuck in Cazic Thule. When your boss is the god of fear, timely eviction notices to the minions are apparently not high on the priority list.

If I were an amygdalan stranded in the Overrealm, particularly if I were a high-ranking amygdalan, I'd probably just go gather up some other amygdalans and fight a bunch of droag out of boredom.
