I was on test last night, mainly to look at the UI changes and decided to make a new character.

1. Is there any way to get the adjust your toon's model portion of creation put back to after you select your race instead of nearly at the end of the process. I for one like to pick a race and get it looking the way I want into before moving on in the creation process.

2. Is there a way to tone down the size of the race/class boxes? They are seriously huge and out of control on my screen. I prefer the old way of seeing all the race/class choices on one page but can live with the multi-tab approach. The boxes are just huge though.

3. The text in the description boxes on the right side of the screen seems a bit on the small si

Good point. I'd not played with the new set up much until reading some comments about this.

It is REALLY hard to get a good look at how your body will look when you have to change looks with all your armor and worse, the full robes on. The monk outfit that showed a fair amount of skill worked really well to show all the woads, shrouds, glyphs and such for some races. And even then it obscured some particualarly across the shoulders for wood elf females.

When people are creating how their character looks they really should be in or very nearly in their underwear (and I mean more like real underwear rather than the ragged tatters that we've all been wearing under our armor since release.)

You definately need to be able to customise your character before he/she gets covered in armor or robes, please change this back.

Yes, please change it back so you customize the look first and choose the class and whatnot second. With the current process, the only way you can get a good look at body details (skin/fur patterns, shrouds, etc.) is to click through the class/alignment selections, customize your character blindly since at that point they're covered by armor, then back out to the race selection to "undress" and actually be able to see them. Then redo it all if you don't like the way it looks. Not good at all.

On a different note, thank you for reorganizing the classes by archetype. It's much better than the baffling arrangement we currently have on live. I know of at least three people who were disappointed to find out they couldn't change their swashbuckler into an assassin (or vice versa), thanks to the decision to group assassins in with rogues at character creation.

Agreed, I'd prefer choosing looks before classes too.

no soga default and looks first. Im suprised the brain in charge of this change thought it was more logical to do it class first? Makes no sense to me. Having no way to change to non soga while creating is also not cool. I hate soga except for human male.

All in all the new character creation is a pain, because now I have to choose my class then make a soga model , pick my name, go into game and instead of playing the game immediatly, leave the area in totality looking for a barber to change my look.

An even further negative is because I play non soga, any sizing dimensions that I initially chose will not be easily converted in barbershop mode because the preview window in game is tiny.

The lighting in barbershop is far inferior to the intro character customization screen for initial creations too.So things like hair, eyes, skintone and facial structure is hard to deduce.

Ive had to buy several barbershop tokens and make best guesses because after I click apply/ok I never look how the preview looked.

You can zoom way up to your characters face in intro character customization but if Im now forced to have only soga I dont know how to make toons easily or at all how I want anymore.

I'm ok with the sequence: first your class, then your look.

The character creation process seems better this way for me ...

But it's only my point of view!

As an addendum, I'd really like to get rid of the SOGA models too in my character creation. I never want to use them, so why am I forced to keep changing them when I've changed the settings?

Agreed on the SOGA.

Those models keep getting pushed in my face, and frankly I prefer the original / classic / standard models.

Please don't punish those of us who prefer the non-SOGA by constantly trying to turn those off and SOGA on?

Let us pick non-SOGA and work with those, if that is our choice.

Thanks.

It is giant, and part of character creation. If you don't like it, then you click that, and it sticks with that as its default appearance.

There are some very strange changes coming to this game at the moment. This one is a doozy.

I created a character last night again, been a while but this seems to be pretty big GU so wanted to check it out and give feedback. I have mixed feelings on it honestly. I don't like the SOGA models, but I can work around that.

I like the classes that are neutral and I think classes should just all be neutral at this point as do others. Picking archetype then the actual class works for me, but I wish I was picking my race first. I also wish they have racial abilities listed for my own convenience and for the new players. I.E. Wood Elves have track etc. Especially if they get them right from the get go, as well as the stats.. tho at this point stats don't even matter at start and starting stats have no impact at end game.

I did notice this morning that when you log in there is a set appearance tab now. So you can just change your appearance whenever you want each time you log into the game. And it does remove the armor, but really it shouldn't have the armor when you make em the first time around.

Hair and some other things definately look better in shader 3.0, but the SOGA models sure don't lol. They just need to do some more fixing on armor and some other things though, some of it still just doesn't look right.

What are people whining about, honestly? There is BIG HUGE BUTTON to the right, just click that and you get the model you want in 1 SECOND! Yay!

Of all the things you could be complaining about with the next update, why pick this? It's a non-issue.

To some it is obviously an issue, as we decided to take time ouf of what ever we were doing to first create and then respond to this post.

This game is huge and widely varied. We all consider different parts of it to have issues/non-issues. There is a ton of stuff that I find as not imporant in the next GU that could have you pulling your hair out in disgust and frustration.

At the end of the day, all these issues are part of a bigger picture that everyone who plays wants to see changed in some form or fashion. Maybe these will all get added up into changes we can all live with.

And that is including why they are forcing SOGA as the default, regardless of the settings you have already made.

I say, I haven't had a character on test for quite some time so I did not remember seeing that before. (heck I probably just glanced right past it). With this being such a large update, and they are messing around with the UI, Char creation, slyly gearing the game up for the EQ2x (IMHO) and those changes are seeming to impact the live game. I mean I'm sure it's easier to keep things the same on both servers UI etc. wise. But it just means all they have to do is flip a switch and the whole thing is SC/RMT.

Sorry didn't mean to get off-topc. Anyway.. they should just put that feature back in and give us control on the live servers so we don't have to use barber etc. EQ2x should have to pay for appearance changes with SC, As long as it isn't me that is hit with that.

Its really buggy. Each time my name got rejected by the server, it changed my character's appearance.

what is really bugging me is that the only answer we get from an eq2 official is : "It's like that from now on and shut up!!"

i think it"s pretty clear the majority of the player do not want the soga ,it would not be that much a problem if the creation system wasn't resetting after each choice/change we make tought

you sould have juste put the soga on the alternate button with a tooltip to explain the difference ( original model without bug and Soga model completely bugged ) , the soga are the alternate model since the beginning

Even if they had some magic study or statistics that showed a majority of people used SOGA (which I doubt they do, from what I've seen it's ~55-45 in favor of original models), the fact remains that the official models we see in SOE's press materials and such and the models that are 'official' to the game are the original models. They call the SOGA models "Alternate" for a reason.

It feels almost like they hired some intern who said "Hey guys, it'd be cool if we could change the default character creation model to SOGA!" and they let him run with it. ZERO explanation as to why the change was made is even more unacceptable than the change itself.
