These should now be ready for testing on Test server. (See the Test server update notes for full details of this GU's changes.) Tradeskillers will find a new tradeskill questline at level 10, another at level 20, and a third at level 30, to fill out those lower tradeskill levels that previously had no quests to do.

Level 10: speak to Tami (if you're a goodie) or Varla (if you're not) in New Halas to get started on some work for either the Ironforge Exchange or the Coalition of Tradesfolke. You can't do both questlines on the same character, but you can enjoy them on different alts.

Level 20: speak to Cordelia at the Butcherblock Docks to help the Far Seas Trading Company with their work in Butcherblock. This quest line was partially implemented by one of our apprentices, Bart, so was a joint effort between us. Look for a brand new shield appearance you can earn, and a horse to help out lower level crafters, and enough Irontoe faction to visit the Irontoe furniture merchant for that pretty dwarven furniture too.

Level 30: speak to Karalyn Cinderton at Gnomeland Security. She needs a little help with an ore quality assay, and then a couple of industrious tinkering researchers may need a hand with their tinkered weapons testing too.

Feedback is welcome, please use this thread for any comments once you've tried the quests.

Hope these help make the lower level tradeskill experience a little more varied and interesting!

Got as far as Let the Spinning Wheel Spin in Halas - created the replacement spinning wheels, but none showed up in my inventory. There's also no "broken" wheels in the Fur and Leather shop. I'm guessing I'm supposed to either have some in my inventory so I can click on them to replace the "broken" ones, or there supposed to be "broken" ones appearing that I can replace?

/Confused

Seems a couple of the art assets are not yet on Test server, which is breaking the goodie side Halas quest line. On the bright side, the Evil side questline should be doable, as are the Butcherblock and Steamfont lines (though the Steamfont target dummies apparently need some reinforcement).

Thanks for the feedback so far!

UPDATE: art issue should hopefully be corrected on Thursday.

OK, so I switched over to the Butcherblock quests - found trouble right away. For "A Binding Contract": there is no merchant near the Engraving desk to purchase fuel from as stated. When I went to another zone (GFay) to purchase fuel, I decided to do the binding there. I was successful, but the quest did not update. I had to delete the quest and start over.

I've placed some of the relevant fuel on the broker to help any others who may want to attempt this questline.

I went through the Butcherblock and Steamfont lines yesterday and didn't find any issues other than the lack of a fuel vendor in Butcherblock and that some of the crafted items stayed in my pack after turning in the quest (Turtle shell items and Bear Charms I think they were).

I was a bit disappointed that the turkey launcher testing for the two odd gnomes, who look suspiciously like someone I've seen on TV, didn't result in some sort of crazy reward though.

I gated home to repair the tome. It shows I created the item but it didn't update the quest. I made sure to go back with fuel and crafted it on the docks and it updated the quest.

I wish I had the time to test this right now, but won't for another week and a half. Just wanted to thank you Domino, I love all you've done for tradeskills thus far and my little tradeskillers will be happy!

Thanks for the bug finds! The fuel should be added to the Butcherblock adorning merchant soon, and the quests should also all be changed to not require you to be IN Butcherblock in order to get the update (which will let you go back to your guildhall if you prefer). The art should also be fixed as of this morning so the good side Halas quest can be completed.

Looking forward to testing these out tonight. I am curious though if continuing the journeyman series is still on your radar. It would be nice to see that continuing to current tier.

And dont forget multi-classing for 2011! lol

OK, last two items (not really bugs) I found checking out the quests:

In the Steamfont series, doing the weapon testing - the reinforced dummy was still defeated by the second weapon, so I had to create another to test the final weapon on - not sure if this is working as intended or not. It was easy enough to make one more dummy.

Finally, I went back and finsihed the Halas "good" quests. One requirement was to create seven rolls of fabric, and yet, you replace eight rolls with it. Just a small discrepancy there.

Good quests, Domino, thanks for your hard work.

/bugged this one: The description on the simple roll of fabric item talks about a stone item, it just doesn't fit. Looks like a copy'n'paste error.

One thing, Domino.

Why is Varla in New Halas? Shouldn't she be in Freeport or something?

Ok here's the rest from me now:

For the jasmine fuel, as an alternative you could consider having a clickable object for a pot of incense near the NPC. It's done this way in the starting quest in Frostfang Sea and it works really well. Easier than finding the stuff on an NPC merchant of the wrong type where you'd not normally look for it?

I do like the tie-in to the adventuring quests for Ninoin, crafting the arrow she sends adventurers to get the parts for.

Handing in the "Turning Turtle" quest, it didn't take the 4 shields I crafted from my inventory. The NPC talks about letting you keep the recipe, but I suspect she's not supposed to be letting you keep the shields as well? If it makes a difference, I had already made another buckler and put it in my appearance slot before handing in.

Again handing in "The Bear Essentials" it didn't take the 4 Carved Bear Charms from my inventory. Thinking about it, how come these appear as items when other crafted quest items just give an update? They aren't "real" items you can use.

The loose Mortartoe ore samples are always clickable, i.e. both before you're on the relevant quest step and after. I found them a few days ago when doing adventuring content in the area. I clicked on it a few times and got the mining progress bar, and the onscreen message for it, but didn't get any resource and didn't know what it was all about (other than guessing it was related to some quest somewhere). Should these objects really be clickable if you're not on the quest? It's a bit confusing if you've gone in there looking for normal resources.

Haywire clockwork spiders are level 40 and aggro. When I got to the area this seemed a bit rough for people like me who are keeping their craft level higher than their adventure level (in order to craft for yourself). The quest is listed as level 35, so that mob is significantly higher. I was level 44 tailor but only level 30 fury, so I was thinking... *gulp* how will this work? It's actually works ok, I could fire the zapper from a safe distance without it aggroing onto me. However there are other non-aggro mobs in the area like wayward clockwork gnomes, or maybe there are some mobs nearer to level 35 and non-aggro? Then people doing this at the intended level might feel a little less anxious about doing this step.

Salt of the Earth - this doesn't work well, sorry. It's a level 35 craft quest and you want people to go into an area packed out with level 38 mobs? I did my best solo (now level 31 fury at this point), I made 2 attempts. I can kill one of those mobs at a time but as you get towards the centre you can't avoid getting 2 or 3 mobs on you. It's just not possible. I needed some friendly assistance from a high level Test player to get me in there to collect the salts.

Story-wise I like the idea of salt coming from the geyser, but it would need some short duration invulnerabilty or invisibility to those mobs or something else to get go down into the central area when doing this quest at roughly the intended level. Or simpler would be to move the salt. You could scatter them along the high ring ridge around the greyser area perhaps, there are no mobs actually patrolling there. You can creep around that raised edge of the gesyer easily enough.

Shooting at test dummies - now this part is good fun after the previous frustration. I like it.

After Building a Better Dummy, Part 3, the NPC says to pass his thanks to Karalyn - I took that literally and went back to Karalyn but there's nothing there to finish things off. So is that the end of the quest line? It seems to just stop dead without any kind of conclusion.

Also the section of quests in Gnomeland Security doesn't seem to appear as a Storyline in the quest journal, like the 2 previous sections do? Unless I'm blind or something, I can't find it.

Karalyn is still selling the Dummies for Dummies recipe book after you've finished the quests. Should she be? It'll be wasted money if people don't realise what they're buying.

I did almost all the crafting in our guild hall. The quests updated ok for me so looks like that's working fine now.

It's generally good, fun stuff and I enjoyed it. (Please don't think the comments above mean I didn't!)

My, Soresha said everything already.

I loved the quests, they're fun to do and I love the rewards. Putting nice house items on the way was great.

I did found an easy geyser to reach at low level, the one just north of the HQ, the Anchorite Geyser.

Thanks a lot for those quests, and for the advanced recipes ! It's the only good think of this GU

Just finished running both the good and evil series for New Halas.

1. Fast Fabrication: You craft 7 rolls of fabric, but have to replace 8. In the evil version, you damage 8. I assume we're supposed to craft 8?

2. Supply and Demand: There are two clickable crates inside the New Halas Storage and Containment building. Only one updates the quest, but I wasted a few minutes clicking the other one thinking that maybe I had to kick it X number of times before it would break. =

3. I was excited to see that 3 of the good aligned quests involved crafting house items, and assumed we'd get to keep those recipes! Just logged back in after finishing the evil aligned ones and those recipes are gone. Is that intentional?

4. To go with above, *if* good aligned players get to keep those house item recipes, could evil aligned players have a way to obtain them as well, or prehaps get 3 house item equivilents from their series?

That's all I can think of at the moment. Planning on running the rest tomorrow!

Thanks for all the great feedback, folks! Many things fixed, and some answers to others:

kelvmor wrote:

Why is Varla in New Halas? Shouldn't she be in Freeport or something?

She's been sent to new Halas to negotiate that exclusive trade deal with the Ravens of the North. (Her dialog should explain this.) She prefers to hang around the outskirts, but she needs to be there for business ... and will not be very welcome back home if she doesn't return successfully.

Soresha wrote:

Salt of the Earth - this doesn't work well, sorry.
