I believe these are 100% gameplay related topics due to the recent fiscal "revamp". I don't conjure my concerns personally, moreso, on a level of productivity and efficacy.

Is there really enough profit from fan faire to warrant staffing employees for it?

How many manhours from your marketers/advertisers are, imo, wasted on fan faire when they could be better spent on outreach and product visibility? Fan faire seems kinda' insular and maybe ineffective to me, but I don't know the numbers...O_O

I mean, I assume executive salaries would be trimmed first, and that auxillery roles like the above would be revised before underpinnings to your highest/higher grossing titles.

Like, what exactly would be wrong with making someone like Rothgar producer, pruning inexperience, and promoting another to fulfill his role? If veterancy can be restored, I think it should be.

How many important meetings can a producer really have as opposed to someone weathered under the Norrathian skies?

Are there healthy corporate channels/meetings for employee feedback, or do edicts hail forth as all scurry to their respective roles?

Are there somehow developers that don't actually code?

What they get out of fan faire in publicity and hype alone far exceeds what it costs them to run it. (And that's not counting the ~$100 folks pay to go -- figure for 1,000 people that's $100k, and last year I think they had over 2,000). Killing it off would be a terrible idea. Plus it's a blast.

As for executives taking a cut instead of downsizing -- almost never happens in the corporate world, it's just not how most companies work.

Some executives are likely to have the layoffs affect their bonuses for 2010 positively..

This thread isn't remotely GGD discussion.

But, Exectuive compensation is based upon revenue growth. Sometimes in a shrinking market share, the only way to grow revenue is via workforce reduction.

Reviewing human captial expenditures along side shrinking revenue streams yields predictable results.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if the requirement for human capital reductions came from higher up the Sony enterprse.

Hopefully, they'll find ways to fix their game and grow revenue so that they don't have to make further cuts going forward.

Iunno, I never really felt that much hype hearing some guy at a podium say what you can read, or display video you can watch...

All the computers, the manhours spent to run it, the gifts to attendees, the rentals, it seems these things have publicity and hype that's relegated to those already into their respective franchise. I mean, all the lodging/flight costs, maybe they could start a practical fund for the fan fairers and others - "Did you enjoy the fan faire community? Divert your capital to progressive payrolls for innovative content injection!" lol. Remember, the froglok introduction quests: good, mob killing/harvesting quests: bad.

And TBH, fiscal revamps that affect core creators of content are of general gameplay discussion, since such would be likely to directly affect current and future inclusions.

Dang! We have many, MANY armchair programmers posting to these forums and now lately armchair financial officers are showing up! If folks are that concerned about finances go to the corporate site and check out the reports.

Frankly, I would think that the many, MANY posters who have been working to destroy this game with their own brands of hypocricy, greed and selfishness would be jumping up and down with the layoff announcement.

Good Grief! Get over the Frogloks already! Why not complain about the promise to never have PVP? I don't hear any whines about that glaring fact.

Economies are tough internationally.

Personally I am more concerned/angry about librarians being laid off and effecting scholastic degrees in the future, etc. than I am about the possibility of game expansions being delayed.

For those laid off, my condolences as the action will effect every aspect of your lives. Many of us have been laid off and many have been fortunate to find other positions in the same or different fields. These days, however, it may be a little longer to get a position.

Saddened,GP

There was never a promise to not include PvP, simply statements that there were no plans for such.

This has nothing to do with being an armchair financial officer, but a simple emphasis of foresight that may prove constructive if judgments are considered in openness, rather than in secludedness.

I honestly don't know where you get off being bitter about PvPers considering that we're one of the most populated servers contributing heavily to revenue, but it seems you're trolling the focus of the original post, which was: in the course of a fiscal revamp, what might call for more meticulous evaluation?

That's all it is. Well, armchair financial officer and HR Director.

You don't know the answer to any of the questions you posed, and no who does is going to answer them on the forums. Nor should they. It's safe to say that they find it profitable in terms of revenue and publicity to continue with it, so why ask the question except to suggest your belief to the contrary.
