In my group of friends we like to duel at times.

As a templar I find this frustration because usually I seem to last about 10 seconds and it is over, unless they fail to hit me hard initially, and then it becomes mostly a frustrating cycle of curing and healing until I'm dead. It's rare another class cannot kill me in about 30 seconds unless they are another low DPS class.

For example fighting a friend who is a conjuror, she hits me so hard I spend most of my time with my screen blurred and unable to see. None of my offensive spells do much damage to her, most are resisted outright.

She spams force taunt so I have a hard time even targeting her, and even against melee classes my heavy armor doesn't seem to do a lot. It's a mix of mastercrafted in shard armor at present and should be pretty decent.

So, I don't know a lot about the subject, and I also have no illusions of being a PVP solo player as a templar.

However, I would at least like to do well enough to keep it interesting for the other player even if I can't beat them.

I know templar isn't popular for this or very capable, but I'd appreciate some tips on at least making a good show of it, particulary against a certain conjuror.

Note: part of this is becuase we also use duels to practice, and not being able to remain standing for long hurts even that.

I have tried using my stun, but it is so short it barely gives me time to fire a single spell, which is usually resisted.

I spend so much time knocked down or otherwise blinded it is hard to function. I have some counters to that but of course their recast time is fairly long, so all my opponent has to do is get me to use them up and kill me before they reset.

DoTs like the conjuror put on me are devastating, though I suspect that may be because I was slack on firing off cures, but there again: a cure and heal cycle only prolongs the fight. I'd like to at least show some teeth.

Any chance or is this just a lost cause becuase of how nerfed templars are?

This game seems to be ruled by DPS, both burst and DoT.

Dots shouldn't do too much damage if your resists are decent. If you really care that much about dueling then make a dueling AA spec and include divine aura. I generally win more duels than I lose, but I haven't done it much at all lately. In BG you hardly ever get a chance to go 1v1 on someone without the rest of either your team showing up or his team showing up.

I haven't really dueled since TSO, but back then when I was able to maintain power I generally didn't lose unless my opponent did a huge amount of burst DPS. Your healing capabilities should be able to keep you alive long enough that your dots and autoattacks/nukes can finish the person off. Of course back then I didn't have to worry about stuff like dance of metal, EB, or shadow step... But then again I didn't have Divine Guidance back then either.

Of course if you're fighting another healer or a pally it usually turns into a huge yawnfest.

With decent resists and timely use of your lotto heals/reactives, you can often bore your opponent into losing! The only class that beats me every time is brigand (depending of course on gear quality and skill!)
