Hey everyone,

I am new to the game and have narrowed it down to two classes that I would be interested in playing. The first being and Assassin and the second being a Swashbuckler. Most of my time leveling will probably be solo since I am new and dont know anyone yet. However, I would like to play a class that will get me into raids, groups, and end game content. Please advice the pros and cons of the Swashbuckler classes according to what my playstyle.

I don't have an Assassin. However, it is generally said that they (assassins) are harder to solo because most of their attacks require stealth and/or positioning. Only about half the Swash's CAs require positioning (including 1 front/side attack, and 1 stealth attack). Swashies also have a few tools to help us get at the mob's back. I know assassins get a stun (Cheap Shot) to help, but I'm not sure what other tools they get.

Both classes have desirable hate transfer for groups and raids.

A lot of people like to see themselves at the top of the parse more than any other factor. If that's what you're after, go Assassin. However a Swashbuckler has a more relaxed playstyle (even moreso with Reach AA) and parses decently on multi-mob encounters.

I'd say try them both. Eventually it will become apparent which one you like better.

Perhaps this may be a little late but...

I played an assassin for three years before quiting the game (real life issues had to be solved) and had one hell of a time leveling him to 70 but is was the most fun class I played. Upon my return I leveled my assassin to 90, But it just did not feel the same... So I started rolling classes until I met the swashbuckler and fell in love with it. Soloing is easy, and while leveling, up to roughly 80, I could take down blue con heroics (not named) fairly easy, I had a hard time soloing a green con heroic on my assassin back in the day.

DPS is not an issue for either class, but possition is. You have to be behind and in stealth to be efficient with an assassin since your hard hitting CA's require it and you don't have many stuns at your disposal, only cheapshot and a poison you can get in the mid 60's I htink... Swashys on the other hand are a little simpler to play sicne you have three CA's at your disposal, Cheap Shot, Walk the plank (through AA) and your only steath attack (I forget it's name even though I use it quite often). This allows you to stay behind the mob while you dispose of it.

As far as grouping goes, you should not have any problems finding groups to head into the level 90 instances, like the library, RH, cella and so on... but the end game content is raids and well, there are a lot of swashys out there so you may have a difficult time getting into a raiding guild or a raiding alliance. As far as possible pick up raids like I used to see in KoS before I quit they are non existent in the level 90, I have only seen pick raids for level 80 content...

Twofour

You have more than one character slot. Play them both until you form a preference for one.
