What is the purpose of this thing? I haven't been able to find any lore about what the hell it is, exactly (Though some parts of it look like the surface of pieces of Luclin). I heard a long time ago it was supposed to be an instance or something (Note the lack of instances in TD, unlike the Greater Faydark before it). Anyone know what it is? Other than a mountain. Because if this thing's a shard of Luclin, slamming that [Removed for Content] thing into the sea would have swallowed Timorous Deep up and probably caused cataclysmic events to happen in Kunark. So does anyone have an idea what it is, other than a mysterious mountain with a sunken ship near it?

Screenshot:

It's a giant shard of Luclin that was originally going to be a level 20 heroic zone just like Stormhold, Fallen Gate, and Crushbone. There wasn't enough time to put it in.

Yeah they scrapped the idea pretty quickly. I'd like to see what's in there too. I would guess that if there was nothing directly from Luclin itself inside, then it might possibly be an Aviak dungeon.

Might be where their Kragploom allies are hanging out.

Even if there were no survivors given the large amount of undead that surround other smaller chunks of Luclin it is very believable that the dead creatures remains would reanimate. Who knows, maybe they intended the inside of the fragment to represent some populated area of Luclin and you'd have the ghosts of combine citizens or Vah Shir?

Undead Mutants or Skeletal Vah Shir... Hehe Or better yet you find ghost still trying to sell items in the Bazaar.

As for why the bits of Luclin falling wasn't extinction-level, I believe (IMHO) some of the Pieces where slightly out of phase and only partly in Norrath's Dimension and partly in the Void.

I'd betting there are several dozen similar chunks that size or bigger near where vanished parts of Odus used to be.

Of course we are assuming that all of the larger chunks came here at terminal velocity...several might have been drawn directly to Norrath though teleportation. One Nexus reaching for the other.

Also possible they simply never were moving fast enough to cause an extinction-level impact. These weren't asteroids that had been whirling around the sun at hundreds of thousands of miles per second for millenia before Norrath got in the way. They're shrapnel from a close-range explosion - still deadly, and the Luclin shards certainly did a hell of a lot of damage where they hit. They just didn't have enough speed or momentum to translate into as a worldwide catastrophe.
