Just wasted $40 on the Collectors Edition. Played for less than 24 hours and got 2 shotted everytime I encountered another player on the opposite faction. PvP on this game is not new-user friendly. It was very frustrating, especially when the people one-shotting me were only level 15 and were able to kill me repeatedly with level 30 guards smacking on them.

This game has been uninstalled and I have literally disposed the CDs into the trash.

People who want to participate in PvP need to understand that it takes perseverence and foresight to succeed and prevail.

If you have nothing on a PvP server, your best bet is to level a tradeskill and harvest, crafting armor and selling it, buying rares and reselling the crafted product.

Until you accrue enough wealth to fully equip yourself in at least mastercrafted and adept 3s, you should not advance past 10.

This was my strategy when I began on Nagafen in March 2006, before I was deleted for transmuting in battlegrounds on the original Seliri.

A good guide for preparing one's self in the PvP arena can be reviewed at http://www.tinyurl.com/pvpbriefing.

Hopefully you come to recognize, that in MMOs, longevity, dedication, and commitment are the productive principles for those who reap plentifully.

Everquest pvp is just not for me. There is no reason imo to have to do tons of work just to level the playing field on pvp in the NEWBIE zone. I appreciate the feedback but the only reason I really posted htis thread was to point out maybe why EQ2 has so little subscribers, at least for pvp.

I have better things to do than stay at level 10 for weeks just so I can have a chance in the very lowest of pvp brackets. There are other games out there I am sure that are fun to pvp in, not a frustrating second job.

EQ2 PVP is a bit lacking, and for new players it is anything but inviting. When I started on the PVP server I had some ideas of where to not find a lot of people of the opposing faction looking to kill me. How does a new player have any idea? I also rolled a scout, so it's not like I was ever surprised by anyone that could kill me. I didn't worry about having Adept 3s or MC gear before hitting 10 as I had no intention of remaining level 10 for more than 30 minutes. That's a bit overkill IMO, just avoid people.

And you have people completely twinked farming newb areas for their mains these days. It's a bit annoying. IMO it should be level 20 now before open PVP instead of 10 only because the newbie zones go up to a higher level. 10 made sense when you could start on the Isle. When New Halas et al are level 1-25 ... it's not very good design IMO.

Just remember that all of those level 15ish players failed miserably on their main character so hiding out and killing new people is pretty much the only option they have to win at this game.

lol how sad that you give up so quickly. I remember my first toon I had to of died at least 30 times just learning what to do. give it a few days and level up before you quit .

Once you get to level 20 and get out of the bottom feeders hunting areas then you'd be fine.

I had the same problem, I had something like 60 PvP deaths from level 10 to 20 thanks to levelling in Darklight Woods.

Then I had maybe 15 PvP deaths total all the way from 20 to 90..

Go roll your toon on the blue servers, learn how to play, then get back to us.

Back years ago when I started PvP (after a while on a pve server, cause I'm not mentally handicapped), none of this fancy new gear, or fancy new zones existed, and I remember very well being one shotted by like every level 13 than ran by me. On eq2, it's just a red headed step child that they tacked on to something that was advertsied and established as a PvE game. You cant expect the same level of newbie friendlyness in a game like this.

PVP can be a rude awakening for new players who have no experience with what to expect when they log in... should SOE attempt to prepare newbs better before throwing them to the wolves, or somehow give clearer and more dramatic warnings?

Here's a thought: what if newbs dinging lvl10 do not become gank fodder to be farmed automatically?

What if newbs that hit 10 get a message to visit the Priest of Discord, who officially enlists them into their faction army, provides them with their starter pvp gear kit, and then afterwards enables them for pvp on deployment?

Teenie pvp - in theory - should be slow enough for newbs to have a chance to react and learn lessons, and then the pvp should get faster and harder as players progress into higher levels. Newbs would likely respond better to a gradual build-up development curve, not an insta-ganking barrier to entry.

Should eq2 newbs continue to be sent out naked? In RL, soldiers are trained in basics at a Boot camp, then provided with basic gear when they are deployed. What would happen if we had a similar system for lvl10 newbs in eq?

The suggestion to "ease" a player into PvP when they first become a viable target is one that was brought up quite a lot some 2 or 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I don't think it's ever really gotten past the "Wouldn't this be a good idea?" player-to-player discussions. I like the idea of making them talk to a priest of Discord.

On the AION subject, yes, they did a bang-up job of advertising it as PvP-centric. Pulled me right in, along with about 9 or 10 others I know.

Quite honestly, PVP, as-built, is the boil on the hiney of an otherwise outstanding, deep, featured, amazing game.

Go play just about anything else in the MMORPG land for 30+ days, and you'll want to come back. The forums are full of people talking about the features (guild halls, mentoring, quest helpers, complexity, etc etc) they wish other games had.

Forget about PVP (other than maybe Battlegrounds) and enjoy the game as it was originally intended... PVP free.... Anything else is an exercise in supreme frustration....as you already found out.

CoD for example, doesnt match you up with new players, you have to take your licks and get to the top the hard way. Same with Command and Conquer, (diffrent styles of games) but you play vs hardcores even when you just start out.

I too am leaving EQ2 for a time. I've played it off and on throughout the last 4 years and every time I return it only takes a few short (and fun) weeks to realize that there is way too many players exploit/hacking the game to make it worthwhile.

I persevered through T1 thru T4 and reached a point where I had between 100 and 150 AA and full set of PvP gear on multiple toons. For the vast majority of the time I can hold my own or win (barring the runners). Here's the thing, what was only a rarity 2-3 weeks ago is becoming common. Players using stacking exploit and hacks to basically make their toon god mode. Used to hit this, maybe, one in 20 fights. This weekend it was about 1 in 5. And it’s the same guilds for the most part doing it.

Ill be back in a year or so to see if SoE has either killed the PvP entirely (Vanguard) or fixed it so that hacks/exploit are far less rampant and those that do it are caught much faster.

To the OP, simple fact is that the game has been around a bit now. You can not compete until you have geared yourself up to do so. Gear is everything, and most of the players here are legacy players who have that gear. SoE has made getting great gear relatively easy once you hit level 30, get there, get the gear, and you'll enjoy it if they ever fix the exploits/hacking that is becoming rampant.

To the community: Your predator/prey mentality for a PvP server may sound cool and "right", but it is slowly driving new players away. Ganking T2 players until they can't stand it anymore and move to a bluebie server will only lead to one outcome. The demise of red servers...You are your own worst enemy

PvP is tough in all games, you die. I can't think of a game that has good pvp right now (EQ2 included).

EQ2 does have a great PvE game though, so when you quit your other PvP games cause they are too hard you can come back and reroll on a different server. You can always get your PvP fix in Battlegrounds now, but don't think those people aren't geared too. But, at least you will get tokens so you can gear up yourself and then at long last be one of those baddies.
