I first started playing this game a long time ago, on a horrible computer. 2 years ago I got a new computer, not a gaming one, but it was better. I played it just fine for a long while, then I got crashes to blue screens- only when Id play EQ2, no other games. So I thought it was the computer. I then got, and still have a brand new gaming PC. This same, bluescreen problem is now happening, which caused me to quit the game. Tech support is unable to help me. I played on this gaming PC for MONTHS, perfectly, and then Id get a blue screen anywhere between 10 minutes and a few hours. Please help me, Ive even called tech support to this computer, and its perfectly fine. I really want to play EQ2 again. I bought this computer and made it better than any Ive ever had before. On old, and not at all powerful computers in the past, Ive never had this issue.

My computer has:

AMD Phenom™ II X2 550 Black Edition Dual-Core CPU

Asus M3A78-CM -- AMD 780V/SB700 Chipset w/Integrated ATI video, 8-channels, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, Single PCI-E MB

4 GB [2 GB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module

ATI Radeon HD 4870 - 512MB

650 Watt Corsair CMPSU-650TX Power Supply

320 GB HARD DRIVE -- 16M Cache, 7200 RPM, 3.0Gb/s

22X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive

3D Premium Surround Sound Onboard

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Because I want to return to EQ2 I contacted their tech support this week. They asked for the Dxdiag yesterday (all they told me after I sent it was to make sure my drivers are updated- I have Direct X 10 (the one computer before this that had the blue screen issue had Direct X 9) and everything has been up to date.

Im unable to paste the dxdiag because of the character limit, Im going to try to make a reply with that information. If that doesnt work I dont mind emailing it if you think you can help.

Thank you for reading this.

Hopefully I can get this figured out with your help.

what is the text of the bluescreen? This will pinpoint the driver that is failing

If the machine automaticly restarts you need to turn this off. In W7 and Vista

1. Start button then go to the line labeled Computer, right click on this and select Properties

2. Select Advanced system settings from the left column of the open window

3. Select Start Up and Revocery settings

4. in the System Failure box, remove the check mark from the Automaticly restart line

Windows XP will be similiar, but right click and select Properties on the My Computer Icon

Copy the resultant blue screen information to the thread

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.

See, this started happening a while ago. I dont have any record of what the bluescreen said. I remember telling that to the guy I spoke to for my PC's tech support. It would go by too fast. I believe I remember something about insufficient memory.

I remembered something odd, maybe helpful?

When I spoke to ibuypower (where i got mypc) support the representative told me to troubleshoot the RAM. so he said take out one stick at a time (i had 2 sticks, 2 gigs on each) and see with what one taken out would it still bluescreen. Well, that seemed to be the issue, so I took it out, the one it still blues screened with, mailed it back - had no problems, then put the new, supposed non defective one again, and bam more bluescreens.

Ive heard because this also happened on a previous computer that was newer than windows xp, it could be a mrmory leak caused by the game.

Im afraid to pay and resubscribe and then find this unresolved. Ive been going at this for maybe a year or 2 now. No one seems to have an answer. Plus sometimes it was 10 mins to 10 hours. Could I sign up for a trial and just play around to see if I get a bluescreen and try to read it? Or can I still find an old record of the bluescreens?

Yes, it will show the screen and then reboot very quickly.

Sorry for being lengthly. Im sure you can see Im desperate.

Sounds to me like you have a 2nd bad stick of RAM even though it was "replaced". You should repeat the test to see if you can isolate it to that, and get yet another replacement stick. Sometimes retailers will "replace" something with one that was previously returned by another customer, which would give you another bad stick. It could also be (less likely) the 2nd RAM slot is bad on your motherboard.

To test that fully:

1. Remove the "replaced" stick of RAM and see if the bluescreen goes away.2. If it does go away, remove the good RAM and put the "replaced" one in its place and check again. If you get bluescreens this time you know its the ram.3. If neither stick by themselves cause a bluescreen, leave the "replaced" one in the previous good slot, and put the good RAM in the 2nd slot. If you get bluescreens now, it's likely the motherboard's 2nd RAM slot causing the issue.

You should also follow the other poster's instructions on how to make your PC not automatically reboot when it hits a blue screen.

As for your last question, yes EQ2 has a 14-day trial you can sign up for.

Thank you so much, for helping me. I'll try anything.

Im going to try your suggestions.

It could be months or weeks, or even 10 minutes before I bluescreen.

I did notice before Id get the blue screen problems, itd get laggier, Id have to drop the graphics, and so on. So I suppose Id be able to tell over time even without a bluescreen if we have a bigger problem in that case.

Im going to try the thing with the RAM ASAP. I may just download a trial or do the little passport thing they offer for cheap now to see what happens.

Thanks again

Blue screen with a memory address error, followed by a reboot? Bad memory. Maybe a bad memory socket ... but probably bad ram. You can run it with 3 sticks until you get a replacement RMA'ed, if that turns out to be the issue. Check this out, see if it helps you at all: http://www.tomstricks.com/how-to-te...l-in-windows-7/

Where is your computer? If it's on a carpet (and the fact that you've had this issue before sort of leads me to assume so), then that could generate lots of static. Also heat, from the carpet fibers building up on heat sinks and fans. Do you clean out the case with compressed air once in a while, like every few months?

Side note, I think that power supply is a little light for that machine.
