I logged in today and both my mini map and regular map has a light blue background instead of the normal brown one. I can't see mountains water etc. The only thing viewable are the points of interest. I'm running the Profit Ui thing. Havent had any issues with map until today. Any suggestions on how to fix would be grateful. Thanks.

Same issue except mine is totally blue (the area where the map should be) icons and such show up, way points work but yea I already contacted CS via phone and so far I been told to back up and delete configuration files, to delete and have the patcher re-down a few folders, just now asked to upgrade to "station" launcher. Nothing has worked so far. Was asked for screencaps, dxdiag , msnfo etc and still nothing. Can also add that 3 other people on my server have seen/and have this issue but guess it's a very very minor issue.

Considering that there seems to be no actual FILES for the new map system in any of my eq2 directories, can a TS agent or developer confirm if the new map system reads/downloads the maps from a webserver? Reason I ask is because on this pc that I took this screneshot on I have a old old version Of IE6 and it seems eq2 uses IE in general for most things like the links on station launcher etc. (And those ads/links etc) have been broken for me as of like a month ago.) however I been asked to reinstall and if that does not fix it, then I guess i'll have to update IE, which I have a odd feeling will fix the issue....

We've gotten a couple of contacts about this today, and I was just coming here seeing if this was happening to other people. Right this second I can't think of what's causing it, because the usual fixes (deleting the UI folder, etc., don't seem to be working). I'll be back if I find anything or need more info.

For the record, I'm having the exact same problem with my map windows. They were fine when I camped, last night, but after today's patch, broken. Nothing else has changed on my system.

I _do_ know my aging system does have some quirks, but this caught me by some surprise. I'm posting my DxDiag log below. Hopefully that'll help.

Also, if it matters, I do use EQ2Map. I deleted all those map files and re-downloaded them, but that didn't help. I haven't tried uninstalling and re-installing EQ2Map, although I've considered it.

Hmm...just checked back and noticed Adam's file lists his video card as an FX 5200. I'm using an FX 5500. I wonder if it's an FX card issue?

So far im seeing a few ppl are having the same problem as me but no solution. I can handle the map being screwed up (although it makes it rougher then it already is) i just hope the SOE/EQ service help isnt like the last two games i played (wow & lotro) in which i play watch the forums for answers but never get one. In this case im paying for a monthly game that isnt 100 percent complete and that irritates me more then anyone really knows. So i wonder am i playing yet another game that is willing to take my money but cant help out when i have a problem if so ill just move on to another take my money and run with it game.

Station launcher, once you get a gander at my trouble ticket you'll see that I been all over the standard solution grid. Deleting files as asked per CS Agents (phone/email)

Deleting Directories (UI) (this was not asked officially in any communications but I asked if that may help and the cs agent , the second one I talked to I think....also thought it may help since there was no way it could make matters worse)

Upgrading my launchpad to station launcer (non streaming)

Wiping out my eq2 directory to let the game redownload. And yes I was asked to check my Anti virus and windows firewall settings to allow any related exe's to pass through (which I already did in both cases on every install of eq2 I ever done)

This install of eq2 had no UI mods prior to last night AFTER I redownloaded all the files, and I only did this because I heard/saw around forums and in game that eq2maps users were not badly affected, so I thought I'd give that a shot..sadly it still ALL blue for me Eq2maps has since been removed.

Forgot to mention that I ran a full file scan twice. First time was after I was asked to upgrade by the CS Agent and prior to launching into game of course. Second time was after the game finished fully re-downloading I closed up the Station launcher, started it back up and did a full scan again before trying to launch into game.

Are there any actual files in our directories for the "new" map system? I ask because when I first ran into this issue yesterday I thought "hmm maybe just the zone I am in has a corrupt DDS file (the format used for the maps) so I booted up my DDS viewer and went looking in my UI/maps and UI/maps2 directories and I have not seen a single file for any zone past ROK. TSO and SF zones areas do not seem to be represented via files.

What stopped me from asking earlier was that I did find maps for some very basic general areas like Ro, Ant etc However they labeled in a fashion that makes me think they are not particular "zone" maps (Eg..Ro_all.dds vs Ro_dds) That combined with the bottom screen shot made me stop and do a lil more research (which im not done with) on the matter.

So question is....are there any real file or are the "new maps"grabbed from a web server?

This is the type of 'map" files I been able to find that EVEN remotely look like the new maps but there no other files like this in my directory, not now, not ever as far as I can recall. Matter of fact as im finishing this post I am gonna go look on the other 3 pcs here that have eq2 installed and see if I am indeed missing these files on this pc (btw those other pcs do not suffer from this issue)

This next shot I noticed last night while zoning up to Sundered Frontier via spire in CL (btw the map shown in this gameplay screen does actually reside as a file in my directory, further fueling my question of wether or not these new maps (tso map system) are part of our install or grabbed on the fly from a web server.

Any thoughts on this?

I've asked about the maps and should hear back shortly, but I also don't have any of the new zones specifically represented in a file, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

We managed to replicate this on one of our XP machines, but not Vista or 7, so that might be a lead. What OS are the other systems you're using that work fine? When you first installed it on the other machines, how did you do it? Disks or Station Launcher? When you deleted the folder yesterday after Josh told you to yesterday, which patcher were you using?

We're playing around with the XP machine now to see what we have to do to make it work.

I'll say at least there is someone looking into the problem. The reason i quit LOTRO was because i had a problem and a GM actually told me and I quote " I can't fix this so you'll just have to deal with it". The xp home machine is fine it does not suffer frm this issue.
We only have a few XP machines hanging around still (in Tech, anyway). I'm not sure what card is in it, but I'll have to check, just for curiosity's sake. It wouldn't explain why we've only seen it on XP so far, but we were wondering if it was the fault of the old patcher not getting the right files anymore. Once we told you to go to Station Launcher, maybe it was too dumb to know the file it was looking at wasn't the correct file, so it didn't re-patch you, thereby accomplishing nothing by getting you the different launcher.

I'm just glad we have a machine here that does it so we can try things on it. That tells me I can rule out connection and software issues, and is pretty much why I keep bringin up the patcher, since the one on that machine hasn't been updated in over a year. It's far too often that we can't replicate something here, so we're really left pulling guesses out of the air.

YES! Having the same map issues. They cropped up on me Tuesday (June 22) and have been driving me insane. Originally I'd put it down to installing a UI, but pulling the UI had no effect. I think this may be shader 3 related. I don't normally use shader 3 and have had no map issues. When I camped over to test I turned on shader 3 to do some testing of the new settings and discovered that all the background images for my default map system had turned into tiled texture files of brown chevrons and things. Turned off shader 3, relogged and all the maps are fine again.

I've also had this map problem since 06-22 update. Looks like the screenshot posted in "My map issues". Haven't changed anything, has to be something in the update; Appears if uncheck "use new map" , looks ok..

I'm not thinking Shader 3.0. It might be able to cause the issue, but the machine we get it on here (which as of this morning just gets the blue graphical glitching instead of the solid blue background) has never had it on, and in fact can't even select it due to the card inside.

I'm wrapping up a big email for the Compatibility Lab now so they can try and replicate it. There may be some graphical setting in there somewhere to turn on or off that may help, but there's enough people to think the update contains an element not agreeing with some cards out there (I'm neither a programmer nor work in the Compat Lab, so I'm just spitballing like you all).

In the mean time, I don't think I need any more dxdiag files, but would those of you who do not have a ticket in that I've responded to, can you just post your OS, Video Card, and driver date? To find the card and driver date, you just go into the dxdiag file (generated with the instructions below) and click to the Video tab.

For Windows 95/98/2000/XP:

1.
Hey guys (all of you who have posted) and I know this is a odd question.... and this q goes out to our nice TSR friend too. On all your machine is IE (internet explorer) up to date? I mean patches (in case you do not have IE 8 is your current build of 6 or 7 as current as can be?) or do you have IE 8 (current version) this goes back to my still unanswered question about the maps if they were on a web server or not. I ask for these reasons.

Prior to even launching into game (on the day this started) the usual stuff on the old launcher side bar (adverts for character transfer etc) did not load for me, and I did not see the usual "could not conect to page" or w/e alert, instead it was just blank (not blue, but blank as if the sidebar forgot to load) and it did this every time I tried to restart the game. In general and in the past w/e I have clicked on those lil adverts, DESPITE the fact that I have Firefox set to be the default browser, IE was used to display those pages. I even went as far once as to totally disable IE (don't ask) and I had to rollback to a restore point as the launcher refused to even let me log in (this was like 2 years ago) I HATE IE and I only apply security patches to keep windows from nagging me about em. So anyone else care to chime on this as another possible reason?

Loathe IE as well, and mine says it's File version: 8.0.6001.18702. Like you, I have Firefox as my main browser and just update IE to get Windows to stop snarking at me.

Hate IE, and never use it unless I have to; however, it is up-to-date on my machine (same version as Nightravyn). In fact, I'd just installed all the latest patches within a day or two of this problem starting up. Might have been the same day, in fact. Despite my preference to Firefox, IE is still my default browser, due to my concern that using Firefox might cause problems with Windows Update, since I always update manually.

You just reminded me, however, that the EQ patcher did crash on me once while I was unloading the new patch, requiring I start it over. No problems on the second attempt. I don't remember any problems with the sidebar, however.

I've always wondered why EQ and EQ2 have a mozilla subdirectory, yet use IE. Odd.

Looks like a lot of folks are have a completely blue map but I thought I'd post a screenshot of what mine is looking like. Not totally blue but this funky blue design on the bottom of every map. I'm running Windows XP SP3 and am using an ATI RADEON X1600 card. I don't have the hard drive space to spare to download the test client and try it there, unfortunately. The other computer in the house that has EQ on it runs Vista and has no problems with the maps. *shrug*

I got lucky with someone posting it. Had to hunt the driver down online as it didnt have a disk with it but that was easy. Good place for you guys to watch for cards in your local areas for cheap prices if nothing else.. Just a thought.
