i know i'm new but...as i hit level 30 and treked into zek... i seriously got frustraited feeling like every encounter requires large amounts of AOE power, and as far as i can tell my AOE's are very limited and rarely do enough damage to take down groups before i die. Lacking any kind of AOE root and having them resist pure awe 9/10 times or just plain missing all together seems like corercer is out of luck when comes to groups of enemies... is some trick to it? i know i don't have masters in all my spells but i do try and have at least adepts... just feels like i'm missing something.

i took agility tree for perpetuality, and am working into int tree, i have 5/5 charm but charms rarely seem to make a big impact when large groups. Sometimes no choice but to face large groups as no other alternative... am i missing something or is just way class is?

I use Pure Awe and Mezz when dealing with groups.

It does get better, but we really aren't knwn for our AE dps. That said, my highest dps fights are AE, so. . take that for what you will.

I'm trying to remember what level you get Spell Curse. I think it's 40, so you don't have it yet. Still... perhaps try this:

Cast Destructive Mind on yourself before initiating combat. Toss out an Ego Shock. This will hit each mob twice (once from your DM, and once from the spell itself) and also make it so they won't auto-attack for 5 seconds. Instantly follow it up with Simple Minds, followed by Stupefy.

Theoretically you've now hit each mob 5 times, which should be enough to finish most of them that are linked. If not, you can be casting Hemorrhage as fast as you can on them, popping a Medusa' Gaze on 1 for the nuke and stun. If you have a pet charmed, that should be a couple more hits in there somewhere too. And you still have Pure Awe sitting there unused as well as your root and Mez if needed as well.

Once you get Spell Curse at 40 your 1st damage hit will be a triple hit, which is nice. Shcokwave at level 50 is also an AE nuke/stun and very useful too. But where you're at at 30 it can still be rough.

Good luck!

Send the charmed pet in to get aggro. Wait a second or two, it should be able to live for a bit, then hit the aoe green stun (Stupefy) immediately followed by the aoe green mezz (Pure Awe). If it's resisted, then usually it'll still keep hitting on your pet, in which case, try the single target mezz/root/stun for any that are still loose. If you do it too soon then you may get aggro.

Once you've got the encounter under control, then just take em down one by one.

One thing to keep in mind too when dealing with groups is Pure Awe excludes the mobs that are mezzed from AoEs, including itself. The recast on it is shorter than the duration, so if you attempt to reapply it before the duration expires it will not be reapplied to the ones under the effect of the first casting. I died to many groups before a couple people on this board clued me in to that. At perp5 the casting time is about 1.5 seconds so I watch for pure awe to come up to cast again, then as soon as I see that I watch the duration on it, as soon as it hits 1 second I start casting it again, the mobs get free for maybe a second, but as long as you are backed off from them they shouldn't be close enough to kill you.

Usually when I confront a group of three I charm one, and while casting I target next mob. Send in charmed mob, then target and burn last mob, jumping back to second mob to kill, then releasing the damaged charmed pet for a quick kill. If there are more then three then throw out Pure Awe after sending in charmed pet.
