MaxDaft wrote:

Would love to get a "general" update on whats going up with out maintence... Hello? Echo? SOE?

They have a serious issue communicating technical issues with the game. SOE could really improve on letting us know the status of patches, server outages, crashes, and other such issues. Typically we see servers come up and down with no communication about the issues at all. I know I couldn't communicate with my customer base like that.

I generally am pleased with how SOE communicates everything else, just the one area kind of frustrates me. When there's an outage > than one hour, there should be an update on the server status page. It doesn't have to be anything more than a "We're looking into this" message, at least then we would know that SOE is aware of the issue and actively working it.

All that being said, any update on the patch?

I dont think any of us really objects to server upgrades and bug fixes - but I for one DO object to being told something is going to take 7 hours (and remember, the MOTD on RE last night actually had it at 6hrs) and being told we'd be kept updated if anything happens to affect that - and then ... they don't.
yes i read all that, given the size of german servers it would be like being promised a car and getting a toy car with broken tires

First off, attacking me is pointless. I'm giving you the information that I have. I'm not making things up and I'm also not in charge of what they're doing with the servers. I'm doing my best to keep you as informed as I can and you have exactly ALL of the information that I do.

Secondly, no where did I see anything saying that Battlegrounds servers were being merged. If someone from SOE has told you this, please link me the statement that said this was happening today with this maintenance so that I can track down more info.

Otherwise it's a rumor and an assumption and not factual information.

This was hardware maintenance at the place where certain server clusters are housed. More than one game's servers were affected by this.

If/when the UK Battlegrounds are merged with the US Battlegrounds, there will be many announcements, some of them probably from Rothgar.

I'm sorry that I don't have more information for you or an ETA. However, being snippy with me because I'm trying to keep you informed is uncalled for.

You have a serious communication problem in your company, Kiara. I'm not blaming you, but you should at least request the necessary changes. There has to be clear communication policies, also in case of server downtimes (information from tech to communication every 30 minutes after XY minutes of delay, reasons have to be communicated if downtime exceeds the expected time by XY minutes, etc).

We are not attacking you, but it's just ridiculous to let a whole server population WAIT a whole evening just because the informations aren't provided.

No, that's him telling you that it's something the team is working on.

At no point did we ever announce that that merge was being done today.

You assumed. Until the announcement is officially made, it's still an in progress thing and you should not look for it to be lurking. And when the official announcement is made, it will be VERY prominently posted in several places.

And please quit with the rudeness sensitivity, people have spent the whole evening (their SPARETIME) because it was announced that the server will be up shortly. SEVERAL HOURS. I think the result of that should be quite easily anticipated and you should cut us some slack. You get paid, we wasted out sparetime. Please consider that fact.

GU56 was released May 25th. June 1st was the next hotfix date, the day after a national holiday and we weren't ready for it to go live. June 8th is the next window that we had.

And that was after he couldnt make the end of May.... This is one big joke, great treating your customers!

I must have misudnerstood this post then:

Rothgar "This week's hotfix has been postponed until Thursday due to a couple of issues that didn't pass QA in time. Since I mentioned that this change would go live on Tuesday, I wanted to give you a heads up."

Can happen in a forum where not everybody's mother tongue is actually english.

Rothgar wrote:

I just wanted to let you guys know that we've been making some changes on the backend that will allow UK players from Runnyeye and Splitpaw to play on the same Battlegrounds servers as the North American servers. Since there is no language issue to overcome, this only leaves the problem of hotfixes and servers that are out-of-sync.

What will happen after the NA servers are updated, you'll no longer be able to connect to battlegrounds until the UK servers are on the same version. Typically your update window is later in the day so hopefully this won't be too impactful. Ideally you'll have a better play experience 90% of the time due to the larger BG server but there will be times that battlegrounds will be down for you.

I don't have an ETA on this change yet, but we're shooting for having it ready by GU56, so near the end of May.

Rothgar wrote:

This will not go live with GU56 but should happen with the next available hotfix either later this week or early next week.

Rothgar wrote:

June 8th (Tuesday) is when we are shooting for turning this on, assuming everything is working correctly.

We hotfix on tuesdays.
You are quite correct. I read only the post that was linked and not the rest of the thread.

That was my bad. Since Rothgar hadn't told me that he was planning this for this week/today, I assumed that meant it wasn't scheduled. Rothgar is awesome and tells me stuff before he does it so that I know what to expect. Also, it wasn't in the patch notes... so to me, that usually means it hasn't gone in yet.

He and I have spoken about it since and he'll update you guys in that thread.

Now that that little misunderstanding is cleared up

Today's downtime was NOT about merging Battlegrounds servers (that part is still correct!). It wasn't even about EQII. It was about the hardware for those specific servers.

Hopefully we're all on the same page now!
