Unfortunately, my guide didn't cover this!

I'm actually working on this question you have right now with the new version of my site. There are some series, but there are definitely more plain ol' individual books. I would recommend LoreLibrary.com to get a feel for how books can be grouped together!

Off the top of my head, some two that are not marked as a series by title (for example, the Remembrances series, Varsoon Collections series, etc.):

Gemma Pathfinder: Memories of Misty Thicket, Remembering Rivervale, & Collapse

Lake Rathetear: The Lady of the Lake, Through the Rathe Mountains, & Red Lake

I know there are some more, but I'm really blanking at the moment...

Have you considered simply putting the books in alphabetical order? At least when you want to find a particular book, you'll know where it is by the others on the shelves!

I did this in my house simply because I couldn't be sure I could place them 'in series'....

You could also try other orders (that I admit are less useful) such as largest to smallest, by colour, by zone, etc.....

Good luck!

-Thoronve-

Alphabetical order would be the obvious choice but perhaps someone could develop a Dewey Decimal System for Norrath. Maybe base it on geography or relation to a particular race. Perhaps you could also use whether a book is related to a particular notable npc or faction. Would be an interesting project for someone with a lot of free time as well as extensive lore knowledge and a bit of cleverness. I doubt anyone'll do it but the librarian in me wishes someone would. Maybe we could even apply it to the forums marking particular posts with a number for quick reference. One can dream eh?

Well, while I wait for what I hope will be the answer to my prayer, I am myself compiling some sort of way to categorize them.

Thus far, I have found about 540 house-placeable books, either still available, no longer available, or possibly someone's pipe dream. In any case, I have the links for all of them so I could verify in-game that they do indeed exist and can be placed. I also have already compiled the following info:

Appearance when placed (I have a key with all of the appearances that I have discovered)

Whether or not they count towards your housing limit (at least for the 405 I already have)

If they ar listed as NO TRADE or not.

If they appear in your house inventory with quotation marks around the title (which makes sorting a real pain)

And a few other odds and ends that really only apply to the books I have.

Right now, I am compiling the data of what I can find on the authors and the subject matter.

If anyone has any info they could pass along to me, I would be delighted to include it in my "master list", with full credit given to the submitter.

And, yes, I HAVE WAY TOO MUCH FREE TIME!!!

Melfius Quickfrost

Ranger of the Freeport Assassins

Blackburrow Server

Okay, let me put it this way: I verified each and every one of the books on my list individually. They ALL are counting against my house total.

As I'm sure you know to have 540 books, there are multiple versions of books out there! For many books with multiple versions, there are old counting and new non-counting.

There are 227 total books on BN that count toward your house item count. 82 of these are "standard" versions, meaning that there isn't a non-counting version available for them. And as Cusashorn pointed out, some of the books that some collectors, well, collect aren't books that have texts. So that count is even lower for texted books (;

I wish you like with authors, though -- many books are authorless. (:

Good luck with your master list! If the new version of BN is of any use to you (which will be released tonight or tomorrow), please feel free to make use of it with credit. BN is my baby! Just wait until I release 2.0 soon

[EDIT] Also, while I am sure you looked very carefully, some of the books you have listed do not count and also do not have a counting version, as Cusashorn mentioned. ):

Yes, I have mined through the many pages of data you have on your website (no worries, I will give credit where it is due!) And, yes, there are few that have a listed author.

I also have discovered that there are multiple "editions" of some books (oh, my aching head!)

I EAGERLY await your new version!
Question about using the "Dewey Decimal System":

Should I classify the books based on their actual content or by their purpose? For instance, the Lore and Legend books would be broken up if I go by content, but not by purpose.

Just wanted to note that BN has been upgraded. Detailed book information for many books is "pending" because... to be frank, I am -exhausted- after a few days of near-straight coding (: Basic information is there, though.

I'm not THAT obsessive (mainly because I don't remember which shelves are which anymore), but what I always used to do was keep L&L together, but separated by expansion (and occasionally book type, as some are not the "usual" size, but are "large" books), and all of the "tome" books I keep together by zone if possible, and expansion once again.

So if you have tome collection rewards that came from Feerott, Zek, and Lesser Faydark, put the Feerott and Zek ones on the same "shelf" and put the Lesser Fay ones with other Faydwer-era books.

As for WHICH books are which, doing it after-the-fact will be a nightmare. Good luck!

The Dewey Decimal System is almost completely content based. It divides all areas of knowledge into 10 major categories and then further subdivides them. 900's are history books in general. 970's are north american history books. 973's are US history books. 973.7's are American civil war books and so on. Purpose only matters to determine the content of a book in case of conflict. In the case of the Lore and Legend books, you could put them all in the same category since their topic in general is creatures/animals/beings of norrath. Depending on how you choose to do this, you might also include all beings in this same general category, including the gods. You could also seperate the beings of norrath into totally seperate categories. Perhaps one category for planar beings, gods, aliens and the like. Another category for the major races of norrath. One more for the "lesser" beings (those spoken of in the L&L books). You could copy the real dewey decimal system to some degree and come up with something functional or you could work out the categories based on what books you actually have. If there is only a single book in game dealing with psychology or philosophy then the RL category for that being from 100-199.9999 might be a waste of the number range. Then again the category of religion taking up 200-299.9999 might make a lot of sense considering the vast amount of material in everquest relating to deities and such. Hope this is helpful somewhat, I'm piecing it together in between patrons at work (at a library no less).

I'm actually doing a "modified" version of the DDS. Since it is heavily Earth-centric, it doesn't allow for non-existant areas (save for one small corner of it). So I had to make a bit of it up, but otherwise it's going pretty good. Thanks for the help!
