I went ahead and got the 30 day free trial from Fileplanet and fully enjoying the game. Got the "streaming" patcher but I let it download fully overnight while I slept. I currently have a character in Antonica and over half of the quest NPCs do not have voice overs. A friend suggested I go into preferences and check for the option to enable optional downloads. Well, the streaming patcher does not have that so I downloaded the station launcher and directed it to my install and checked the options for voice overs and it downloaded a bit of new stuff. I get back in game, and still, a lot of the NPCs don't have voice overs

This really wouldn't be a big deal, but sometimes I like to know what I am doing. Due to a condition I have, I can't read every single quest, so I have to just click through and then just see what to do without knowing why I am doing it. This won't cause me to quit the game, but it would be nice to know what I am doing sometimes. I understand new zones might not have voice overs (hope they do soon, like Halas), but Antonica is far from a new zone.

Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

try going into the same location where you checked the optional downloads and forcing a full file scan

I'm having somewhat of the same problems. I have enabled every feature in the launcher and in game, etc. I hear NPC emotes just fine, but any PC emotes, I do not hear at all.

I reinstalled the game with actual game discs and did the patch with optional stuff checked, downloaded everything, got in game, and so far Timorous Deep is very silent except for the basic voice greeting. I haven't checked Antonica yet, but I was told Timorous Deep does have voice overs, but I am getting nothing.

don't have a copy of the game in front of me, seem to vaguely recall a setting in the Options section of EQ2 that controls NPC voice overs, might want to look through there

Level 1-10 of Timorous Deep the voice overs worked but ever since I moved to the beach near Gorowyn, the voice overs have stopped working.

Couldn't find an edit button, so sorry for the double post.

Just to clarify so it don't seem I am contradicting myself, the first post about Timorous Deep not working was posted after checking it with my level 17, I had not yet tried the level 1-10 area, but created a new character last night and voice overs were working fine until I hit the level 10+ area.

There's also the obvious possibility..

Voiceovers were really only done for original content.

Any new quests added (even to NPCs in the "old" areas) do not have voiceovers other than the standard cookiecutter "Hail!" "Well met!", etc.

There is an option in the settings to only have them speak once, but that's irrelevant if they don't have a VO to begin with.

I am a new player so I am not sure, could have been major revamps recently for all I know.

I know many of them are silent but here's a test for you.

The one NPC that sticks in my head as having a VO -- I liked her accent -- was a female named Dancer near the big claymore right by Archer Woods. She has a short quest line but talks either way.

Go talk to her. If she speaks, then you're fine and it's just a lack of VOs for the people you're interacting with.

If she doesn't speak, then it's most likely that you're missing the VO packs.

None of the NPCs in Commonlands have VO's then? I am a huge quester so stopped xp to work in Commonlands a bit for AA, and none of the NPCs have VO's.

Considering this game advertises the Voice Overs for NPCs, I would have thought atleast more than 10% of em would have VO's : Won't make me quit the game, just have a hard time reading all the quests and that was the biggest selling point of me trying the game in the first place.

Once upon a time (when the game was new and correctly advertised) most every NPC spoke their text, and there were hundreds of quests in the starter zones (qeynos/antonica, freeport/commonlands).

As expansions were added, for whatever reason, newer quest NPCs no longer had voiceovers. Whether this was a money issue to hire the voice actors, or if customers complained that the game was "too big" and they thought that the additional voiceovers were unnecessary file bloat, or what, I can't say.

Eventually, they removed a whole lot of those quests from the starter zones, probably for a similar reason to why they justified removing Qeynos and Freeport as starting cities as of May 25 of this year - they did not provide suitable experience (in their eyes) for a beginning player, so they yanked them out.

Most likely the quest people you are interacting with now are newer quests that were added over the years and, as such, lack the voiceovers.

Yes, as you point out, it was a major selling point. Some major voices were part of the game originally - some of them still exist. But by and large, most of your journey will be met with "Hail", "Well met." "Good day." or, my personal favorite from the Ambassador at Kelethin, "'Sup?"

I wouldn't even care if they were professional actors or not, I just have a hard time reading all the quests and regardless how well they acted, I could still make out what they wanted me to do and the reason why. I am sure then people would complain about the crappy voice acting lol, can't please everyone I suppose.

Oh well, like I said above I won't quit the game over it, just won't be able to know what exactly is going on around me. Great game though, having a blast so far.

Thanks for the responses!
