Is this happening when Shader 3.0 is enabled?

Earlier today had a friend enable Shader 3.0 & experience 3-4 crashes. After logging in a 4th or 5th time His PC crashed & wouldn't turn on.

His wife was playing & told me what was happening to his PC during the crashes & eventually his inability to start the PC, but she logged off before I found out anything more.

That is exactly the problem I was having it would just black screen and everything would lock, had to hard boot then it wouldn't let me boot up for a while. This issue is needless to say causing no end of frustration, the patch notes said something about eq2.ini needing to change something but I cant even find that file to delete it and try that one. any windows 7 users that know how to do it?

I have also started crashing to desktop, since I activated shader model 3.0. Crashes have happened in Commonlands, Darklight Woods and Thundering Steppes. I turn it off and the game runs fine.

I have an:

ATI 5750 with the latest drivers.

Amd Phenom II 555

Windows 7 64 bit.

Mine happens even when I am not running shader 3.0, and I cant find the EQ2.ini file, anyone know what its default location path is? I am running Win 7.

Even before I enabled the Shader 3.0, I keep crashing. It's happened twice within 20 minutes today while I was placing stuff in my house in New Halas, and twice last night while running Labs in the Vasty Deep. Anyone have any ideas on why this would be happening?

I also have a decent computer that is running Windows 7.

This system lockups issue apparently started a few weeks ago. (and there are related threads in the support forum)

I experienced this issue on only one machine, an x58/i7 920/6GB Corsair Dominator/GTX 260/water cooled and 100% stress tested with all current drivers.

It appeared(as best I could tell) that whenever RAM would be fully utilized by EQ2(due to the 32bit app limitation) and the client would begin to access the pagefile a lot it would lock the system.

I'm only running one HDD in this system atm, so as a quick fix I plugged in a thumbdrive and enabled readyboost(to speed up the client's access to the data that would otherwise have been coming from the pagefile on the slower HDD) and the lockups actually stopped. Still though, I would get a momentary freeze once in awhile...I suspect these were the moments when the client was pulling data off the thumbdrive(and when it previously would have locked up).

After the GU56 update the lockups have returned.

Also note:

These lockups were happening without 3.0 enabled

No matter what I do, (extreme quality, running around guild hall w/ max items/enabling shader 3.0 etc) I cannot get EQ2 Client to use more than 2GB of RAM.

All of this leads me to ask the following:

What OS/Chipset/Processor/Memory are people experiencing lockups running?

Is the LARGE ADDRESS AWARE feature not working properly with 64bit OS's (particularly Win7)?

Was there some asset on Live that was slowly ramped up prior to the GU56 update and then fully implemented with GU 56 that could adversely affect the client's read/write performance so drastically even with Shader 3.0 not enabled?

had the same issue, running through New Halas and boom game stopped. Could ctrl alt delete however so system didn't went down. Restarted the game and all went well then 20 minutes later same story.

Then the strangest part came, restarting game couldn't.

Got this error

I restarted the computer, and restarted game and all went well?

I don't have shader 3.0 enabled, so that can't be it.

I have finished the quests in NH and didn't encounter troubles in other zones yet, but maybe it's the amount of people in the zone? Lots of people in this particulair zone right now.

I have been crashing since new halas went live as well. Either my desktop just locks up until I force reboot or it just completey shuts off when I am playing EQ2 (and only EQ2 - and only since Halas went live).

I do not have Shader 3.0 enabled.

I tried to explain to tech support when I talked to them to notice the forums that tons of other people are having this problem and he just kept saying it wasnt the patch. I tried everything he told me to do and it did not fix it. So unfortunately I left the game...not going to pay for something I cant play

This really really sucks - game is unplayable - and this all started since HALAS update - cmon folks been playing this game forever and boom. I login and same syptoms as everyone else black screen and computer acting like its been shut off. My main is in the gh - but i have tried several alts and same situation.

System information :

intel i7 cpu [email protected]

3 GB ram

running vista

ATI Radeon HD 4850

Yes i did make sure drivers were all updated. Shader was not installed.

I'm intermittently crashing as the game exits to the desktop. Most times it does so ok although the screen shakes as the desktop appears, but occasionally it fails to reach the desktop properly and I get a blue screen of death instead.

A friend finds when he exits he gets to the desktop ok but then gets an error message indicating there was a problem in closing down the game. Both of us so far have had the crashes when exiting from the New Halas starting area although exiting is pretty flaky in terms of my shaking screen when I exit from any other part of the world.

We've both tried Shader 3 and reverted to Shader 1 as both darkness and performance hits were off-putting with Shader 3.

I should clarify that my crashing when failing to exit to desktop properly is with Shader 1 running, not Shader 3, as is the flickering both my friend and I are seeing with some ice/water surfaces in Frostfang Sea. We both have quad-core machines. I also have a single core machine running on lower settings and don't have any of these problems running the game on that machine.

I am surprised that SOE hasnt answered this thread. I wish I was still playing EQ2 but will have to settle for Aion

I appear to have resolved the flickering at least, by disabling Catalyst AI.

I am also having problems since Halas went live. I cannot stay connected at all. I never had trouble before this. It's not just my computer. My husband is also having the same problem on his computer as well. I have been on the phone with my cable company, the wireless router company, updated drivers and firmware. It was so bad last night that as soon as I logged on I would get kicked to character select. I completely deleted eq2 and reinstalled it last night. I'm still randomly dropping to character select. I'm on hold right now with SOE but have a feeling they are going to tell me it's not a problem on their end. This is extremely frustrating. Please help!

It's not just shader 3.0

We've had a lot of people in guild randomly crashing to desktop lately. Our MT crashed 6 times during the course of the day yesterday and he doesn't have shader 3.0 enabled.

I am also crashing every 5 minutes. It boots me out then when it tries to log back in it just scrolls through all of the log in servers and tells me it cannot connect at this time.

This has been happening to me since Halas came out as well. It's not giving me any error messages so I dunno what to tell you but I did cancel my subscription and I will not renew until this is resolved.

I sent in a /petition but waiting 2 days for a reply is just really poor customer service.

I would like to add my experiences. Now I play on Antonia Bayle and as we all know that has its own inherent issues. But I have experience this game freeze. Sometimes it returns control and other times I have to use task manager to kill EQ2.

While our guild raids we all seem to experience a freeze of sorts form time to time. Especially on encounters that have many adds or detrimental effects. The spell lag is also very high for almost all of us in the raid. Then over half the raid will lock up or crash. We have all tried just about every configuration change such as lower graphics settings turned of logs, etc… nothing has worked.

We really cannot raid at the moment due to the all of this.
