View Full Version : Druid Ring reconstruction live event – Feedback and Bugs

A mysterious young Fae named Kurista has begun a ritual to restore the ruined druid rings across Norrath! She and her followers have begun work in a remote corner of Nektulos Forest, near the Valley of the Dead. Adventurers and crafters of all seasons have been invited to help with their undertaking.

The druid ring reconstruction event is now active on Test and Test Copy. Unlike prior building events, this one is active in just one zone at a time. Once the Nektulos ring has been empowered, it will become a valid travel destination from any of the other druid rings, and Kurista's retinue will move to a new location.

The Nektulos site is on the plateau north of N'Marr's Ascent, at the coordinates -13, 90, -2000. Once the event has moved on, an NPC at the newly-rebuilt ring will offer to teleport you to the next site.

Please make all your feedback posts to this thread. Thanks!

Note: Edited to make this sticky!

Will it be force completed like the Spire events, if any individual server doesn't complete it in a set period of time?

I have a few questions too What sort of time-scale are you scripting the event for, from beginning to completion of each individual ring? How many individual druid rings will be involved? What level of participation are you planning for on Live.. ie, how much impact will each individual contribution have on progress? Will progress scale up or down based on player involvement (or lack of) to better balance high and low population servers?

The reason I ask is because of the last two events such as this. With the rebuilt spires, a long-term event was planned for, and many people spent hour after hour grinding quests only to see 0-1% of progress... which led many to simply give up on it after a bit, leaving the event to autocomplete on every server. At the opposite end, when the griffon towers were built in several zones, the event was over so quickly that many of us missed it entirely before we even got home from work... I don't beleive it was designed for the high level of response the players provided. Ideally, I'd hope this new event will last long enough to give players of different schedules an equal chance to participate, but not so long that folks get frustrated and stop.

Hopefully during the running of this event, the completion rates on different servers will be monitored and there will be hooks in the code allowing the completion rate to be vectored up and down, rather than just auto-completing.

When trying to buy the "A black granite druid ring, a blessed sapling, a blessed shrubbery" I was told the price of each item is unknown.

The gems lack any color in the dressing room, and are really hard to see.

Any chance of adding some nature, and or storm themed items added to the vender? Bo staff with lightning efect come to mind seeing as Karana is helping, and maybe some weapon that has flowers or leafs falling from it?

I looked all over for a reconstruction counter and found nothing. Could Kurista tells us how close she is to being done by chance?

I love the new items available on the merchant. The Druid ring in particular. As mentioned above, the gems are very hard to see in the dressing room. One constructive feedback I have is to add more nature themed house items and accessories. The teleportaiton pads returning is fine but doesnt really make sense that the merchant would have more Eurdite and Void Live event stuff than new nature inspired items.

That being said, the few nature inspired items up are wonderful. Also, the merchant might change what she sells as they move on to the next ring...so if thats the case then I apologize in advance. Thank You.

I had only purchased one of those tables, too, and would love to get more.

Also, I concur with Anestacia above that the Quellithulian items on the merchant seem very out of place.

My only other feedback at this point (only have briefly looked at stuff, haven't had time to run the quests yet) is that the quartermaster should get a subtitle of underneath his name.. it took me a bit to realize where to get the special fuel at. Also, I would like to see a progress meter as well.. offhand I didn't see one.

edit: Just logged back in to find out my inventory was overflowing. The reason was because somehow the quest giver for Chosen Foes: Nektulos Forest handed me two sky lures (which are lore). I only had one that I saw before camping, though I do recall getting a message of "you cannot receive this item because you already have one" when I had accepted the quest.

edit: Nevermind on the overflowing issue, I see from Benji in a seperate post that the issue is already resolved.

Alright! With the next Test build I plan to reactivate the event and you'll see the following changes:

The inventory overflow issue with "Chosen Foes" will be resolved, along with the crash bug.

Items that had an incorrect price set (the shrubbery, fruittree etc.) will be purchaseable.

The gemstones that currently have invalid appearances are being removed. In their place, there will be a couple different gems with cool particle effects. Unfortunately these aren't previewable in the dressing room because of how FX work.

The Ulteran and Quellithulian-themed items are being removed from the merchant because they made no sense.

A banker will be present with Kurista's party. Some of you might recognize him...

Also, a couple notes about how the event already works:

Completion rate is dynamically configurable, just like it was for the spire event, so every server will have a different quota to finish and if things are going too slowly, it can be sped up.

The spire event had an issue where a majority of quest turnins happened at already-completed sites, and didn't contribute to the overall progress. Since this event focuses on one druid ring at a time, it will advance more steadily.

Once all of the druid rings are reconstructed (and this will happen naturally on every server this time), the repeatable quests will unlock in every zone. People who wish to continue getting tokens after it's over can do so at whatever spot they like best.

The merchants have slightly different items in each zone. In particular, there's more than one version of the druid ring house item.

More updates coming soon!

Is there any chance that those of us who missed the spires and void live events will ever be able to get the teleport pads or other goodies those events offered? Ideally I'd love to see them on the city festival vendor or some such other monthly event. I would have loved to participate in those events but life conspired against me and it just was not possible. I just hate missing out on the good stuff =/

Ok, I've ran two of the quests now (didn't feel like trekking back for t2 supplies), so here's my updated feedback:

The Motes of Growth quest will likely be the most-loved of this event. However, I noticed that there's different sized magilith stones. While I can see it feasible for getting a friend to want to mine the two person stone with you, I really think the four person stone will be a waste. I'd rather see another two person stone and two one person stones in its place.

The Chosen Foes quest is proving a challenge for me. These mobs are v and vv, but they are kicking my Troubadour behind. I'm doing this as a level 79 Troubadour in all Legendary gear, but almost am dead every fight. =

edit: Another thing about the Chosen Foes quest.. it would be nice if the popup message also displayed in your chat window. I had walked out of its range originally because of other popups from POIs and harvests.

edit: The Sky Lure is not removed from your inventory when you complete the quest. I also cannot destroy it. =

edit: Elwe asks for 12 Motes of Growth in her dialogue, but the quest only requires 6.

edit: The respawn rate for the magiliths seems perfect, don't change it.

A couple more answers:

By "Ulteran and Quellithulian-themed items," I meant the purely cosmetic furniture pieces that actually had "Quellithulian" or "Ulteran" in the name. It doesn't make sense for a Tunarian merchant in Nektulos to be selling an Ornate Quellithulian Bookcase. Maybe if he was in Odus or something...

Teleport pads will remain on the merchant because they're too awesome not to offer again.

I know the mega-magiliths can be a hassle, requiring four people to harvest, but you should try it anyway. They drop bonus tokens!

The issues with the sky lure and motes of growth got pm'd to me in chat last night, and I have both of those fixed internally for the next update.

I'll look at difficulty on those Chosen Foes encounters. They are meant to be a challenge of course, but I don't want them kicking Troubador behinds.

Please do not set the rate to high/low on Test Server. Esp. if the vendors sell slightly different items per ring and are only active on the ring that is being build. It would be a shame if we couldn't have that event around long enough for as many people as possible to participate. If you want to test all locations in a hurry I would suggest doing a dry run in which only one (of each) quests is required for completion, do it for all rings and then reset them with a >good< rate?

And with another set of tokens entering the game: When will the Foreign Exchange Token Merchant be ready to be put in the game? I know you devs have kept that NPC in mind, but it has been months since Gninja mentioned him. Any news?

Thanks for reading.

Purr~

Maybe tinkerfest or add some other type of city festival that runs separately from the current city festivals. Or at lest have there respawn time take longer. While I wont say why. Could we have some kind of team harvest check were all four people have to target it and then harvest with in say 5-10 sec to be able to get the added tokens?

One last thing I would like to ask. We have hats that are mushrooms, how about some that are flowers, or leafs? Baseball cap style with a leaf would look cool on a crafter!

The vendors will remain up next to each ring after it is completed, and the event will not shut off when it's completed -- you'll still be able to repeat the quests after all the rings are built. So there's no need to worry about missing things, unless you procrastinate until GU 57!

About the group harvest stones and lag: It's actually using a 5 second timer right now. When one player starts harvesting, the next player has 5 seconds to join in (which resets the timer), and so on. So you don't have to sync up perfectly at all. I could increase that timer too if it's a problem. The only catch is that however long the timer gets, that's how long you have to wait after the last person harvests it before it updates everyone. So it probably wouldn't be fun if I doubled it to 10 seconds.

Unfortunately, it's way too late to add new art like hats right now. I'll see what can be done about a token exchanger, though I can't guarantee such a thing for the game update.

I grouped with someone for a while on Copy to try out the two person stones. They worked fine, each harvest yielded two updates per person.

2. We also tried out the Chosen Foes quest. This became interesting because I was 78 and he stayed un-mentored at 90. The drakotas he called were level 90, but since they aggroed him first, it was fine. Then I tried it at a different site.. and the drakotas were still level 90! Needless to say, I lasted about long enough to say "oh crap!" out loud. I know the ideal solution would have been for him to mentor me, but the drakotas should either be scale to the level of the person using the lure, or scale to the average of the group.

3. Also, after I got ressurected from my untimely demise, I was unable to interact with any of the 1 person harvest magiliths. The 2 and 4 person magiliths were still able to be interacted with. I'm not sure if this was related to dying, but that's the only difference that occured.

4. The bonus chest with a token for two people doing the drakotas together is a great touch, thanks! I'll have to drag my hubby around on Live for that quest.

5. Could the amount of drakotas needed be lowered to 8? It seems that no matter how you do it (solo or duo roup) you're always going to need only one more kill but have to kill a group of either 2 or 4 drakes for it.

6. Now that I finally purchased the 50 token tree, I can say--that's DEFINITELY worth it! I'm curious--how many possible berries can you get? I've seen three so far (three different characters trying a tree each, no worries--the one day delay seems to work just fine). It would also be nice to see 10% for the sweet berry's effect, but I won't complain either way it goes.

7. The Jewel of Balance -- I don't think people are going to be too thrilled with a void type effect on it.. reminds me of the Tempest in a Teacup effect (LoN item). The point of it also sinks into surfaces--not sure if that was intentional or not. On the flip side, the Jewel of Growth has a very nice particle effect and places perfectly.

8. Random, but somewhat related -- any chance pvp can be disabled on the server again? It's hard to find people on copy to test the 4 person rock when half of them would rather splatter you instead.

9. Any word on having some sort of progress meter in? I've only seen myself and a few others swing by on Copy, and though a couple of us have been running quite a few of the quests, I have no idea if any dent is being made to progress.

10. I have serious love with that black granite druid ring!

11.
I've had a good time with this event.

The drakes may be a source of frustration for most people. They don't pop fast enough, and only seem to pop for one person at certain intervals. So if you have several people all looking to pop drakes at the same time and only 1 pops every 5 minutes, and you need 9 of them. <shakes head> this equals a lot of frustration.

Otherwise I enjoyed everything else. I'd make it requires 6 or 8 drakota (meaning 3 or 4 different sites) and also change it so that the 'respawn' on a given site is personal, meaning you just have to hit that many uniqiue sites for this quest, compared to now where it seems to be that if someone summons drakota at a site then it prevents anyone else from summoning them there for a short time.

A bit late for actually getting it in with the GU, but an art change to put a tunnel or pass between bone lake and the valley of the dead would be stellar.

/agree about some sort of progress meter would be awesome. /agree also that the drakota quest is too much sugar for a dime, meaning it's just plain frustrating. I harvested my rocks and then ran around in circles trying to figure out what kind of timer they're on. I killed two, then ran around some more (yay and I get motion sickness with fast-moving scenery) and it's a full five minutes or more seems like til I could kill them again. If someone else comes into the area and gets their drakes as well, it's an even longer wait. Surely something can be done to either make them on a personal, shorter timer or cut down the reuired number of kills. Otherwise, I don't foresee a lot of people wanting to repeat that one purely because of the aggrivation factor.

Love love love the rewards! Fantastic job on those =)

1. The armor you put on the mannequins is also completely covered in leaves--not sure if that's intentional, but very hard to see the armor.

2. At one point I was unable to see the flapping wings message anymore. I'm not completely sure what caused it--I was in group for a while, and died, and after that the person mentored down to me. After those events I stopped seeing the messages no matter how many times I repeated the quest. So either dying or being mentored made the message go away. (my group member still saw the messages though, only way we were able to complete the quest)

3. 27 tokens for the Wayfarer's Boots seems like quite a bit unless you are leaving that movement speed buff on them.

I just started on this today ..

I'm mentored to my lvl 31 Warden, I'm normally 56 Fury. I've killed 2 sets of lvl 31 heroic drakes and have received a drop of a small chest. But, each time I've clicked on the chest it has poofed and said .. "There are no items that you can loot" for both screens, neither character has received any additonal tokens.

Feedback on this event would be ..

#1 - Rewards .. please add in a few 1-5 token house items, other than the shiny. Personally, I'd love a non-emplowered Shrubbery for 1 -3 tokens. Our Carpenter version is of the grey-brown type. I've been wanting a nice pretty bright green shrub for awhile. (there's one in Willow Wood if you need a reference)

#2 - Why are the stones & drakes so far away from the Rings? Repeative enough without having to run for 2-3 mins each way. Not to mention what about harvesters less than lvl 20? Those Trents can spawn argo versions can't they and aren't there a few wandering argo skellies and stuff?

#3 - I agree with previous posters .. please change the colors on the harvestable stones.

#4 - Again, I agree with previous posters .. timers on the Drake things need to be a LOT less than they are. Right now I can do 1 Drake summon per 1 RUN of a Harvest Quest.

#5 - Is it too late to suggest a complete change to the Rock Harvesting? Why can't the rocks be all the same size but give you bonus rewards based on how many are havesting? Why do we have to only harvest off the small for solo, medium for duo (and apparently groups of 3 are screwed), and Large for 4 (and again apparently groups of 5 & 6 are SoL'd).

Are the Medium & Large Rocks supposed to be giving Bonus Tokens? Or just the Large ones? *if* they are, the Medium isn't dropping anything other than the fact that it's 2 'motes' .. maybe that's what you meant but if it requires 4 Harvesters to get lets say 4 tokens .. why can't there just be a chance on solo & more than solo to get 1-6 tokens based on how many are in the group.

People really just aren't as social for the most part as you'd think they'd be on a MMO.

Thank you.

Edit Add: I bought the Jewel and while I am happy to get it .. I'd have been happier to get it minus the void effect. Don't mind the little light sparkles every so often but the lightening strikes are a bit much. Don't particularly care for the LoN Tempest Teacup either for the same reason.

And, just curious but why not change (or add) Teleport pads like the ones in Kelethin? With a bit of green stuff around them.

I was admittedly really short-tempered last night while I was playing, but trying to do these quests annoyed me so much that I deleted them all instead of finishing any.

The crafting thing... it was what it was. I didn't know it would take T2 materials until after I got there (which makes sense if the minimum level is 10) and of course I had a bagful of local-to-adventuring stuff (T9, on a level 89 main) and everything near me was T3. (And I know that there's a banker, but I stopped using the bank for raws when we got the guild harvest depot.) I didn't feel like galloping all through Nek again after I'd left Nek to go get / bank raws, so I just decided to leave that for another day. That one's my fault, not the game's.

Then there was the stone thing. I caught in the quest text that they were "heavy" but somehow entirely missed that it can't be done solo. Can that be written in the quest journal, so that next time I know not to spend time looking for the stones unless I have a group?

And finally, the drakes... I ran around, and got the pop-up text of, "leathery wings," or whatnot, and used the item, and it was great. And... that was it. I stood around there for a bit, I wandered around that same area for a bit, I wandered around other areas... and then I decided that I really didn't have 90 minutes to devote to a single solo quest, and went off to go do something that would actually be productive. There need to be more locations where you can pop them, or at the very least the location(s?) where you can pop them needs to be made more obvious.

Look for the smallest ones, "a magilith". There should be 6 total in a stone area.

The repop for the drakes is somewhere between 3-5 minutes per group (person maybe even) per area. Basically every other stone quest run you should be able to pop the drakes if you keep returning to the same stone location. There are at least four spots that I found in and outside of the Valley of the Dead where you can pop stones/drakes.

I do agree though on two points--the wings message should be more obvious, showing up in your chat window would definitely help and the drake respawn should be a bit faster.

---

For anyone having trouble finding stones/drakes, I put the locations I found so far on zam, hopefully that'll help.

I would like to know if there is some sort of reward unlocked after finishing all of the druid rings.

Quite frankly, I doubt that these rings will be completely finished during this GU unless there is a viable reason to finish them after everyone has done the quests for their main & alts. We saw how far we got with the spire rebuilding event and the lack of reward for putting in the effort to finish a spire.

People know this will autocomplete at the next GU.
I have a suggestion and a request in regards to the rewards for the quest turn ins ..

Can we PLEASE get some Guild Status added to them?

I'm not asking for a lot, though normal Writ amout per lvl would be sweet, but I'd be happy with even just 200 per tier status every turn in. (ie: T7 player = 1,400 status) These things are dreadfully boring and single minded after the 10th time and we'll have how many rings to rebuild and empower?! *sigh*

Other than getting a few of our favorite rewards off the various merchants, why should the majority of the server even bother doing these? There are better quests to be had in the world and if you aren't into House items, you aren't really missing anything .. 'cause more than likely they'll just poof up in completion after the event is over. It's what happened for the Empowering Spires, people will assume it will happen again.

The only thing we missed out on with the Spires was the Title and even after a bit of grumbling by the Live Servers, that it was extremely unfair to require so much work out of everyone but in reality was only being done by a meager handful who couldn't get it done in time obviously, we subsided and moved on to other issues as a Title wasn't really that big of a deal to miss out on.

So, why should we work ourselves to the bone for this event .. again?! Please add in Guild Status, maybe even 1 gold per Tier or something. Anything to get more people to help move this event along at a nice clip instead of grinding to a halt after the 3 day of non-stop harvesting & killing drakes .. and the occassional Grey* Crafting quest ..

* - Grey Items = no Crafting exp for doing said items / sure you get the Even Crafting Quest reward but with the adventurer Killing ones you get both mob & quest exp. You also get Adventurer Exp off the Harvesting one. Makes the Crafting quest really only good for increasing your way to the billion item crafted AA with minor Exp for its reward.

Some friends and I are doing the event on live and here's what we found: When three of us grouped and did the 2 person stones, one always had to catch up with 2 stones after the other two of us had ours already. When we killed the drakes with three of us, a chest dropped that NONE of us could loot, but when only 2 of us did them, the chest had one token each for both of us. The rings NEED a progress indicator. The drakes NEED to either be cut down to 8 or another EVEN number.

And I wholeheartedly agree about some sort of status for the crafting portion as there's really no incentive to keep doing trivial combines after people have purchased all the goodies they want from the vendor.

I adore live events as they give us something new and fun to do, but this one just seems like it wasn't well thought out before it was implemented, and so far our feedback seems to have gone completely unnoticed or completely disregarded. We understand the devs are probably busy after the update but hey guys come on and please fix the things that we've been postig about....Please? With a cherry on top?

Also, perhaps the vengeful souls and leatherfoot defenders who wander around the Nek Forest druid ring could be convinced to haunt a slightly more isolated spot... the Defender of Growth certainly seems to enjoy killing them, but if they were to perhaps move around the corner just a tad to the north (around -151.47, 91.53, -2147.65 is a nice open empty recess nestled into the mountains, with a beautiful forest view too!) they could lament their former existences in more peaceful solitude

Up until now the bugged teleporter has been okay to work around for most levels. However, now that it is in Loping Plains, it is virtually impossible for low levels to get to the rings to even do the crafting part. Also, the paladin does kill mobs that wander but their are too many for him to keep up with. The mobs in that area really need to be cleared out all together...atleast in the imediate range from within the rings. And that goes for all the rings imo.

For now though, the teleporter REALLY needs to be fixed to keep moving at a steady pace.
I am hoping some more rewards will come when its over at least. I am on AB, so I know that makes a difference, but it really was nice to see a large portion of the server come together amd work so hard. The quests are simple and fun, though just like anything repetative it becomes, well, repetative but over all its been nice. There have been a few bugs along the way and it probably should have been on Test a bit longer to fine tune it but honestly the issues werent things that couldn't be worked around. A good addition to this event was making everyone work at the same ring at the same time. This ensured that ALL progress was going toward the broken rings unlike the similar Spire Event.

A full Wayfarers suit would have been awsome. My first instinct was that each merchant would sell a differnt piece of it, but unfortunatly that isn't the case. Some more nature inspired items would have been nice too but the ones that were offered were great. I hope since the Sinking Sands and Jarsath Wastes replicas are missing, that there will be other hidden items added as well...even if it has to come a little later down the road.

AB should (fingers crossed) finish Stonebrunt tonight and that should be the end so we will see if any surprises are still to come. In the end though, it was a nice event which I very much enjoyed!

The Paladin of Growth speaks of "Tunare's Chosen" sending him, which Firona Vie was always refered to. We also have Covic stating that...

"I got another good female coming with Halas. People will see her next week." Found here.

Add that to the fact that Firona Vie's file was patched in and considering her strong tie to Tunare it makes sense. Also, Tunare had a very strong pressence on Velious in The Wakening Lands due to her growth portal keeping the lands in that area from freezing over (even though it probably is frozen over now due to Woushi taking the bloom away). Perhaps what we are doing here will help reactivate the 3 rings on Velious which will be how we travel there. This is only a theory, however, and I too hope we get atleast some answers when the Stonebrunt Ring is complete.

I just wish that those dang trees stacked! The concept of a random berry that can be harvested every 24 hours is a neat concept. Yet from what I've been told by others who have already tried, having multiple trees still results in only x1 berry being able to be harvested on a character.

Why can't people who are crazy enough to grind this event use multiple trees per day? I mean, I was kind of tempted to start stock piling trees on my main. That movement berry is amazing for when I run around in the BG instances. If I really was nuts enough to gather 1,000 tokens, then why can't I harvest 20 trees a day? Yes, it could be "unbalancing" to constantly operate under those minor buffs. But under the current system, what's the point of grinding the druid rings? Maybe a spare set of Appearance armor for an upcoming alt. A tree or two for your character stable. Maybe even a pair or two of the run speed boots. Yet that's all. We're talking maybe 100 tokens in total if we only use a single tree.

Maybe, a horse added nearby? Or, at least a clear path for anyone under lvl 60 to the nearest horse.

----

Also, I bugged the Feerrott turn in issue but afterwards I deleted the Feerrott Motes quest, hoping that would unblock the rest of the Rings' Motes of Growth quests but no such luck, they are still appearing as just landscape. So, I am boggled by what's wrong with the harvesting quest after Rings' Completion.

Note: Motes of Growth for Sinking Sands & Jarsath Wastes are the ones affected.
