View Full Version : Is there a way to make the pet stay at range?

I use the /pet ranged command, get the confirmation message "your pet will keep its distance and use ranged attacks" and start the fight. If the fight runs very long, the pet will inevitably run in to melee anyway, and die to the melee aoe, which was the reason to keep the pet at range to begin with.

This has happened for years, and has always been irritating to the Illusionist class. Why give us a command that doesn't work at all?

This bug still exists, I notice, but I've not visited the illusionist forum in years, so though to stop in and ask:

Is there a way to make the pet permanently stay at range? Some command I haven't yet learned?

At that point it will stay at range until it runs out of spells to cast, then it will run in and die in the AOE.

MY OP wants to get it to behave like the command is supposed to. I.e. stay at range and cast during the fight. If nothing is up, just stand there like any other caster until something comes back up.

Ideas? If I'm doing something wrong, I'll change it. At the moment all I'm doing is hitting the crossed swords symbol on the pet bar (send pet to attack) to get it fighting.

Is this what is happening to yours?

pet options, set to ranged

(it will still run in randomly and die in every AE)

Summoner pets work properly, doing what "pet ranged" implies it should.

The illusionist pet has behaved like this since illusionists became a pet class. I understand SOE doesn't fix bugs in less than 4 years, but since this one has lasted longer than that, and I'd not checked here in a while, I thought to ask.

I don't get it. Take any of the X2 fights. Every one else is full and my pet is OOMed completely.
