Started playing 3 days ago. My brother had the account but he quit after playing EQ2 for a few years. He was always trying to get me to play saying how much better it was then what I was playing. Unfortunetely he has issues that don't allow him to continue playing.

I came over from Lord of the Rings Online having spent the last year there. Played WOW about 2 years before that.

WOW!! (Pun intended)

WOW=no guild halls LOTRO=guild halls but very limited. EQ2=these guild halls are amazing.

I cannot believe the options there are available in this game. In LOTRO in my house I can only place certain items in certain places. Here I was placing items all over the place and changing their locations for about an hour just because I could.

And talk about storage. In LOTRO you have very limited storage space. You have to buy additional slots and only after you hit higher levels to open them up. I had made 5 mule toons in LOTRO just to have them hold stuff for my main. Now I have 6 bags that can hold 40 items each-plus a shared bank-plus a regular bank-plus a guild bank!!!!! I'm in storage heaven.

First day here on chat I had a lot of people helping me and one guy answered all my questions and on top of that sent me 5 Plat to get me started.

I like the guild tool and used it to find my guild. That plus the leader was very helpful my first day.

One thing I really love is that when I hit auto-attack my toon automatically faces his target. I can't tell you how much of a blessing this is. I must have had 4 million "you must face your target" messages in LOTRO-but no more.

Kinda rambling but really excited about my play so far and look forward to each minute I get to play this game.

Take care, Kezzik

You can also re-size those household items. Shift + scroll wheel.

A few things brought me back to EQ2, and a big part was the housing and the crafting.

Hope you have a great experience.

Rule number one: have fun!

Rule number two: don't be afraid to ask questions!

Rule number three: have fun!

Welcome back to EQ2!

Oh and besides resizing a house item with shift + scroll wheel, try ctrl + scroll wheel to change its loc vertically. Works great to position books in some shelving.

And if you really really like fixing up a house.....MAKE A CARPENTER!!!

Also check out the Homeshow section in the forums (near the bottom)

You listed many of the reasons I love eq2 also. You will find that there are many types of quests to do, a lot that will give you house items. Also, the broker system is great too!

Enjoy. Oh, and that carpenter suggestion is a good one if you like decorating houses.

You forgot house vaults. Was showing the post to my husband, and he reminded me of them. When leaving your house, look at your options, you'll see house vaults, which range from 2-5 spaces. Use those for putting in personal items that you want to store. And also, don't forget the storage you have in the broker window. It used to be tied to your house vault, but it's now completely seperate. Just use that space, again, from 2-5 spaces (depends upon what size house you have) to either store stuff for selling, or just storing stuff before you sell it.

Sounds like you've already discovered a lot of the depth that EQ2 has to offer. Even for an MMO 5+ years old, EQII offers a lot of different gameplay styles for all types of players. As with any game, I'm sure you'll find things that you don't care for compared to some of the other games you are used to, but I hope your time here is enjoyable and that you find a new home with us here in Norrath!

Hi and welcome to EQ2 and im glad your enjoying yourself. I ve never play LOTRO, so I cannot comment but I will say that when comparing to WOW you will find that the EQ2 people are.... Dare I say it, maturer. You know people don’t stand around in the cities making train noises. A friend of mine plays WOW and ive seen plenty of it. Its nothing compared to the depth of EQ2. The graphics are beautiful (if you lucky enough to have a good PC), the animation I fairly slick and the scenery is stunning.

You should find everyone friendly and most people will be more than willing to help a fellow adventurer

I agree also you should definitely check out the forums for the home show well worth a look, you will find some amazing houses to look at.

I must say, that I am also new to the game (thou somehow i baught the game a long time ago, just never played it), and recently just got into it. I have come over from DDO, and Champions and must say, that even thou the game is a little older, i like the fact that it is a mature community, and that people are willing to help others out so much.

I hope to be a keen player many months down the road, and like that this game has so much to offer.

SOOOOOOO much to do!

Started transmuting and what I don't transmute I sell on the broker. Seems pretty much everything sells eventually if you price it right. I have made 5P 45G this last week and one of the biggest sellers is the fertilizer stuff like Bones, Water, Peat.

Found two cracked bones in the Caves and those went for 2P and 1P25G. Putting all the treasured stuff on the broker for 5G and it goes fast.

Templar is now 27 and Sage is 24. Getting Sage up there as I am tired of all my apprentice spells being resisted so much. Not fun when I got 3 or 4 mobs beating on me.

I love the durability of the Templar. Killing is kinda slow but I can take a beating and eventually out last most anything I have encountered. One death so far and that was to Slaverjaw (sp?) in the caves. He/She snuck up on me and took me out fast but the mender helped me get the incisor marks out of my chest piece.

Loving this game----Why did you guys/gals keep it a secret for so long???? Should have listened to my brother a long time ago. Great game and a ton of fun.

Cheers.

And another decoration-related tip. We have a custom, cross-server, channel for decorators. So if you want tips about decoration, ask questions about it or just have a more relaxed conversation, type on your chat window:

/join Antonia_Bayle.Homeshow

For those playing on Antonia Bayle, the command is just

/join Homeshow

Welcome to the game and I hope you enjoy your stay.

Another great part of this game that is lacking in other games, or just isn't fun is pvp. in WoW i played the trial and when i was level two this level 69 or so kept on killing me which was annoying. in EQ2 you can't pvp until level 10 so people can't attack you right as you start. Also, there are pvp level ranges so you can only get attacked by people close to your level (you can still attack people above the level range). pvp is really fun, and if you don't want to pvp there are still people running instances almost every minute of everyday. If you wanted to try out pvp, make a character on the Nagafen server (you can go onto the Vox server sometimes and be the only person who is logged in on your faction. My character names i play the most are ilovecows and Steppen. you can also join the guild D E M E N T E D. everyone there will be willing to help you learn to pvp and help you get some nice gear and spells. Wether or not you decide to, good luck and have fun!

Glad to see there's another new person in the world who's truly having a great time =).

I took a short break from eq2 to beta LOTRO but immediatly came back here after. I've hopped back a couple of times over the years with free time but it just doesn't hold a candle to the enjoyment I've gotten from this game in the almost 6 years I've been here. My dabble in WoW didn't pull me away from here either. EQ2 is too good even with its flaws.

Slaverjaw is on my hit list with my girls. Whenever I've mentored down into the proper level range, I go "fix" him as well as Grubdigger, Lurkblister and all the named in Forest Ruins!

After you reach level 20 you will be able to visit the chronomage in your home city (sounds like Qeynos so Qeynos Harbor) and mentor to any level range at 5 level increments. Very useful as even after you level up you can go back and check out lower level content that is added, like New Halas, or content you outleveled before you did it. Wonderful stuff.

There are other MMOs out there besides Everquest?! Dang... what world have I been stuck in for the past 15 years. =)

There is an options somewhere to face your target. I just can't remember where ATM. I watch my toons do it.

I agree... this game is one of the most well rounded out there. Although grouping at low level can be an issue now and then it is to be expected with a game of this size and age.

As alot of other people here I have played all major MMO's since their conception and eq2 is by far my favorite. The Wife and I have been playing for over 4 years if you include our original accounts and we always end up back here. We usually play for about 6 months or so then take a breather since (well for me at least) we play the game into the ground and never run out of things we want to get done.

What some of us ol' timers are doing is forming Halas static groups. So far there are 2 groups with a possible 3rd. We all start in Halas. Once a week we will group for 2 hours give or take. One group has plans on meeting two evenings a week for a couple hours. In the group I'm in, each week we will do something - prolly an instance at a given level, so peeps have a week to get to that level which will be easily obtainable without a lot of grinding. So it will be a slow rise to cap - because the journey and the fellowship is what makes it all fun!

Fun way to start new groups. And oh, yeah, newcomers to EQ2 in our guild are also joining in on one of the groups!

As for those new to EQ2 - look around for others at your level and see if you can start your own static group even if you begin with duo. Rules are simple - meet x times a week for x hours of play and agree on instances you wish to work, keeping in mind the time needed to level up for that dungeon. I know groups that formed for the purpose of doing HQs and Sig quests as well as L&Ls.

The more flexible you are with the easiest of rules agreed, the more likely your group will be successful because your goals are the same.

I just left lotro meself and started playing eq2 again. Lotro is a great game in a lot of respects but after playing eq2 again, I can never return. Everything is done so much better in eq2. I got my sarnak sk up to level 30 with 42 aa's so far. It's nice to finally play something evil again

It's good to be back

Deathpact 30 sarnak sk - Guk server

LOTRO is a wonderful game but yes EQ2 is better in many ways. I only go back to LOTRO when I watch the movies or when I am out of Vitality for all my toons. One thing I wish Sony would do is offer the Life time Sub like LOTRO.

I rerolled as an Assassin on AB.

Had a nice guild on Guk but the server was pretty slow. I like to feel immersed in the world I'm adventuring in and when I started a toon on AB there were so many people in DLW and on chat it just made it so much more enjoyable for me.

One thing in LOTRO on Brandywine there were people everywhere and I enjoyed that. AB has that same type of feel. Maybe they will merge some of the lower pop. servers in the future.

I tried out the chronomage and visited Halas last night. Had to unmentor to kill the named pig.

Still having a blast and I have to tell you as I get higher in level there is so much stuff to do it is almost overwhelming at times. I want to start Transmuting, need to start deity quest, want to make a few alts to have an armorer, Alchemist and provisioner, doing writs to help the guild level, leveling myself, harvesting for rares so I can make my own jewelry, bought a house in SFP near my guild hall and am decorating it...somewhat.....oh yeah-need to make a carpenter!

Whoever invented work sure didn't know about EQ2!
