I am running Windows 7, and I just reinstalled my OS onto my computer because my mouse was freaking out and going to random parts of the screen. I bought a new mouse and it does the same thing. It is a USB optical mouse. Now it was perfectly fine until I installed EQ2 or ran the program. So can any of you help to figure out why your game is making my mouse freak out? I even tried using the touch pad mouse and it freaks out just the same but only when running EQ2.

Hmm.

Usually jumpy mice mean your cat is sitting too close to the computer! /duck... Sorry.

I'm assuming your mouse pad is on an even surface and not glossy...

Shake out / wash / scrub / replace your mousepad. Alot of times, shumuch (the wife's word, not mine) from your hands and late night munchie sessions build up on the pad cause the optical mice to not track smoothly across the pad even though it "looks" clean causing the pointer to bounce all over the place.

Next try different usb ports. check results.

Uninstall (completely) the mouse driver and let Windows 7 use plug and play... check results.

Try all your usb ports again... check results

Install mouse driver that came with the mouse... check results.

If you're playing on a laptop, disable the touch pad on the laptop for eq2 when playing with a mouse.

Any suggestions I have after this involve getting the Cat and/or a baseball bat involved.

Ok here is a list of things I have done =] thanks for the help btw (even though I am still having the problem)

Bought a new mouse

Made sure the surface I was using was clean and my mouse was clean

Used different USB ports

Uninstall / reinstalled the drivers (they were the plug in kind the mouse never came with any)

Reinstalled the OS (windows 7)

Reinstalled EQ2 (twice)

Now here is the problem I am having my mouse jumps to the top left corner of the screen as well as fades in and out to where I cant see it. I cant even go down to the task bar becaouse my mouse will dissapear as if it was hiding behind the icons (but not really). Anyway this all happens when I do the following:

Have EQ2 Open

I am so lost on what to do to fix it

Wow that's curiously frustrating.

So

Mouse = No

USB port = No

Driver = No but you may want to check the mouse manufacturer's website to see if they have a driver fix/forum post about jumpy mice.

It almost sounds like you have an I/O conflict although i though plug and play did away with these. Check your device manager setting in windows and see if you have any yellow question marks or exclaimation points? Did you add USB ports to your computer via a USB card that sits around the sound/graphics cards?

I highly doubt it's Windows or EQ2 themselves.

Are you playing on a mouse pad or on the desk? I aways suggest playing on a good mouse pad especially with optical mice. Even the smallest pits in the table/desk can send the lasar false readings and send your mouse all over the place.

What's your mouse sensitivity setting in the game/windows?

When was the last time you upgraded your video drivers? And how old is your video card/monitor?

Have you added any new hardware to your computer recently other than the mouse? Headsets? keyboard? network cards?
