Hello I am a level 27 Paly and its been an ok road but I have a friend who is a SK and they have had a much easier road. I have also read that SK's in end game are better overall then Paly's in almost every single area.

So I was wondering if it was worth taking the time to betray because as it stands now taking on 1 yellow even con and 1 yellow down can kill me or leave me with lottle mana and little health, yet my SK friend just laughs at them as he plows thru them ending with 75% to health and mana.

Does it get better or are SK's just that much better then us Paly's?

Thanks

I see some people saying that in the endgame that Pallies now have it as good or even better than SK's. I've never played a pally so I don't know. I've been in a few PUGs with Pally tanks and they've been just fine.

Thing about betrayal is it doesn't have to be permanent. You can try SK and if you don't like it, betray back.

I hope I don't sound "elitist" by saying this, but level 30 only takes a few hours. You could simply make a new paladin and get it up in a short time and have both to compare against each other.

My impression is that they are fairly similar in capability but naturally differ in technique, taps v's heals as an obvious example. I play an SK and equally geared Pally's seem to hold their own defensively and dps about the same as myself.

From my observation do you want to be a good guy or bad guy?

Paladins do get a few utility heals that are especially nice in the small group setting. Though Shadowknights get a few tricks too. The differences are only slightly different playstyles, but they tank roughly the same. So really is a superficial difference.

That makes a huge difference. If you are barely scraping by and he is breezing through it sounds like he must have better gear and/or higher grade spells.

If you were ONLY going to solo or duo your whole time I'd recommend the SK. Lifetaps rock solo. I would probably say that an SK will have a little bit easier time levelling up for the same reason.

If you are going to tank groups or try to raid then paladins are very solid these days too. At endgame, Paladins would take less overall damage than an SK (by a fairly large margin mostly due to their mythical), have equal or superior hate, and do equal or slightly less damage. An SKs death saves/damage prevents are better though IMHO. I think it's also fair to say an SKs group/raid buffs are a bit better too. Oh, Paladins self buff their HPs quite a bit better than SKs do.

I don't think you'd be gimping yourself either way. Mostly, it comes down to what flavor you prefer and what your intended playstyle is.

SK's have better RP value... besides being goody goody is boring... End game wise Pallies do pretty well as welll

Pally's are kicking butt on testcopy. I think they got a bit of a boost. I would hold off and watch the forums after Halas goes live. See what changes have effected both classes.

At level 27 why bother betraying? Just roll a SK and play it for a week or so. Your paly isn't high enough level to really have come into it's full suite of tools yet. You simply cannot make a fair comparison, at this point, based on your own personal observations of the differences in the two classes at level 27.

Both crusaders are great as tanks, with their own strengths and weaknesses. Gear makes a HUGE difference in how any tank performs and crusaders are no different. My personal preference is to play an SK and that is my Main currently. That said, my favorite tank to play my (Mystic) healer with is a Paladin.

If you are soloing/duoing a lot then an SK may indeed be a "better road" for you. Not that Pallies don't do that well, just that SKs (with similar gear) dps better and that is 90% of solo/duo play. If you are mostly grouping and otherwise like your Paladin, I'd recommend that you hang in there at least until you get Amends before you make your decision.

Sk = slightly better dps and raid tankingPally = slightly better survivability due to powerful heals, and is a better group tank generallyThe pally is probably more versatile overall due to their targetted heals allowing them to act as pocket healers in a pinch. The SK cannot do that but can dish out more dps and can act as a pocket dpser if needed but no one will ever confuse a SK with a dps class... whereas Pallies can turn the tide with their heals.Anyway, I like SK for leveling and Pally for end game I think. Havent gotten there yet but played both and thats been my impression.

I am going to answer this in the spirit of the EQ1 days.

If you are even contemplating remaining a Paladin, you have no business being a Shadowknight
