Are you loading it on a laptop? It sounds like your graphics chip isn't supported by the rendering engine.

this is a netbook.

so the game will not run at all?

There is no chance your netbook will play eq2.

Silat

Also, netbooks tend to have low-speed CPUs. EQ2 is incredibly CPU-intensive, a netbook processor's going to leave you looking at seconds-per-frame rendering even if the graphics chipset could handle the game.

I'll see if we can carve out some time to look into the issue with these chipsets.

My last laptop had an Intel GMA, and was able to run the game on lowest settings at around 20fps, after I upgraded it to 4Gb ram. From memory, it was an Intel GMA 965 aka X3100. I doubt though that a netbook has enough CPU speed or RAM to play the game at anything close to a decent FPS.

http://www.intel.com/support/graphi...b/cs-014257.htm

From that link the 945 supports pixel shader 2.0 in hardware but only vertex shader 2.0 in software using the lastest version of Directx 9. So I would start there and make sure you have the very latest updates to DirectX from Microsoft.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6a-9b6652cd92a3

@Rothgar

Since you mentioned it, I was wondering if you've done any work into making EQII compatible with the Intel 945 Express Chipset (GMA 950) yet? I also have a netbook (ASUS eeePC 1005HA), and I get the same problem as teabunny when I try to start EQII.
