From what I have seen in this forum it is clearly a waste of my time and effort to comment. Nevertheless I would hope that this post like others doesn't fall on deaf ears.

Two huge changes are coming down the road with the next game update, that anyone can see has ignited the players of this game. I am talking about the end of the Island and the dismounting while in combat.

According to the powers at be the island change is to allow a better transition for new players to the game. I can understand this from a developer side. However, upsetting your current base of customers to appease or appeal to those new customers not yet paying you is just a ridiculous way to handle business. Several players in that thread have had wonderful ideas to accomplish the developer goal of easing the new player experience yet allowing current, older players the option of retaining content that is very near and dear to our hearts. I would hope that some sort of equitable solution is worked out. I still don't understand from a lore standpoint how a character created in Everquest would not have the option to start in one of the two cities that started it all. I wonder if the current team of developers realize that Qeynos is Sony EQ spelled backwards?

The dismounting in combat is simply just a ridiculous "fix". As smokejumper stated in this thread, "This system allows you to continue seeing the great combat animations and makes the game more visually appealing for all players. I don't know how watching my character or others popping on and off of their mounts is considered to be more visually appealing. I guess smokejumper has a different definition of aesthetically appealing than all the players in that thread.

The biggest issue that comes with these changes is player choice, or lack there of. Choice is being taken out of the hands of the players. One big draw to any RPG, whether on line or not, is the appeal of making choices for your character. It helps the player feel immersed and connected to their character, which in the case of online gaming, keeps us coming back every month and renewing our subscriptions.

Also, neither of these changes seem like a good use of time and effort by the development team. It seems like there are other issues that should be addressed ahead of making a monk look good while using a roundhouse kick.
