Weird Graphics Problem

<p>Hi, </p><p>I am trying the trial for EQ II and i get a really weird graphics bug. I posted an image of it here: </p><p><a href="http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/9155/weirdeq.jpg">http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/...155/weirdeq.jpg</a></p><p>It kind of looks like a small portion of the screen gets massively increased in size and is over the whole screen. When i logout and back in it is normal again but the opening window is in the upper right corner of the screen opposed to in the middle. After a random amount of time (generaly between 10-30 minutes) the problem surfaces again. </p><p>Sometimes a temporary solution is resizing the playing window a few times (or going from full screen to windowed mode)</p><p>I played EQ II in the passed (both a trial and a real account for a while) and i never had trouble on the same hardware and software. </p><p><strong>System info:</strong></p><p>Windows Vista 64bit/ 8 Gb memory</p><p>GFORCE 8800 GTX 756k memory</p><p><strong>So far I tried the following nothing helped):</strong></p><p>- Install latest nvidia drivers </p><p>- Install latest directx drivers</p><p>- Play on lowest res and lowest settings </p><p>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</p><p>So far i already lost 3 days of my trial and ofc i am not going to pay if i cannot get this fixed. </p><p>If more info is needed i am happy to post it </p>

<p>It looks like this might be caused by a corrupt game or UI file.  You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.iniIf deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.</p>

<p>Hi Daniel </p><p>Thank you for your reply. I tried removing the said files, it seemed to help for a short while (1 hour or so) then the graphics fell back to the bad looks. </p><p>After that i removed the whole game and reinstalled it. That did not help either. </p><p>Any other tips ?</p>

Completely uninstalled the streaming client and installed the full client from the station launcher and still the exact same problem. Kicks in about 2-3 minutes after I start playing and makes the game completely unplayable. Any suggestions?

<p>Perhaps if you tuned down your setting while in game you could at least play until a solutipon presents itself. Click the EQ2 button in game and select options. Go to performance and select "Extreme Performance". It will be crappy graphics but you can keep testing the levels above that until you find one thats stable. Also may consider setting it to 32 bit as EQ2 is a 32 bit game from what I understand.</p>

Changed graphics settings to Extreme Performance and oddly it seems to be happening even more. I can play for about 10 seconds, then the graphics problem happens. If I change it from full screen to windowed back and forth a few times it fixes itself, but then after 10 more seconds it happens again. It's a really weird bug though. When it happens, if I move the camera around I can see my own character from underground. It's like the camera gets locked underground, the models get incredibly strange, and a small section of the UI stretches to cover the entire screen.

<p>Did you try changing windows to 32 bit? If that doesn't work might I suggest removing your graphics cars and trying the default motherboard card? It might be a driver issue. I'm pretty sure it's a 32 bit problem but I'm no expert or anything.</p>

Reinstalling a 32bit Windows isn't really an option right now.

<p>You dont have to reinstall anything. Go to control panel and settings. Drop your graphics from 64 to 32. EQ2 does not support 64 bit. Doing this and seeing the graphics card you have, you should be able to play on Extreme Quality not Extreme Performance. 8 gigs of RAM is more than enough also.</p>

Umm... I think you're a bit confused about the difference between 32bit and 64bit operating systems. It's not possible to downgrade your OS without multi-booting or reinstalling.

<p>Control Panel > Personalization > Display Settings > Colors: 32 Bit</p><p>This is the outbound signal from your motherboard to your graphics card to your monitor. Works on ANY windows platform regardless of home premium or pro or anything else. Try it or dont try I dont care. Just trying to help.</p>

Again, confused between the difference between 32bit and 64bit. No such thing as 64bit color in Windows. The difference is the way the processor allocates processes. It's an architecture thing, not something that can be changed by a top level button click.

So yeah, update. Reinstalled Windows, problem still there. Reinstalled EQ2 once with streaming client, and once with full station client, problem still there. Rolled back video card drivers to the 181 and 186 drivers after reading about the new nvidia drivers giving some people problems, problem still there. I really want to get back into EQ2, but if this is indicative of the quality of support there's no way I'll resub. Game is unplayable and this topic has been up for almost a month. Seriously? What am I supposed to do at this point? I feel I've been pretty patient up til now. Where do I get some real support?
