Seeing the same, eg, I have completed The Shadow Odyssey 1-8 and for half the quests, it says, they are not done. And the window really needs some options for sorting. I have 30 or 40 things I click on, acutally trying to find some point, where I could progress with a line will be a pain, if the window doesn't seperate completed from open lines.

does the system help players feel more integrated into the game's lore?

Ltldogg5 wrote:

does the system help players feel more integrated into the game's lore?

I'm going to say yes, actually.

The system definitely needs some help -- sorting, not counting things you've already done, etc -- but I like the premise. For example: I did the pre-SF Freeport quests (Oh noes, WFP is falling down, Lucan's missing, etc) but never knew where to continue that series, or even if it did continue, after the expansion launched. I just went off to Paineel and did my thing. (It probably doesn't help that being a Test player, and having been in the Beta, my perception of timeline is WAAAAAY off.)

But the Storyteller tab indicated what I could do next, which I thought was neat, so I went off to do it. I'm not sure how I feel about the last 6 years' worth of content jumbled up in there (particularly with some quest series removed, some added, some revised etc in that time), but I'm definitely digging the idea. EQ2 is such an ENORMOUS game that it's nice to have something with you all the time, self-ordering, to help you understand it all (vs. a collection of books in your house, which are unweildy at best).

Thanks, that is what I was hoping to hear. I can't wait for the GU to go live and start anew from New Halas.

Ok, now you can hide completed story lines. When I check the box with my level 1 frog, that hasn't completed one single quest, half the lines are hidden.

Also, the "requires xy(quest/Level)" text is sometimes cut off, I can sometimes only see the upper half of it.

And if the system is supposed to give new players some direction it doesn't help if a level one character can see the quest lines for level 20-90. It should have a default sort option, that wil filter all quests 10 levels below or above you.

I like the premise, and while I still have to take a look at it myself, from what was said in the thread, does it actually tie more than just the golden path together? That would of course be amazing, so heres hoping

The way the storyteller system is set up right now is garbage and will NOT help a new player.

The first thing on my list when I hit the tab is DOF followed closely by the Hoola hat stuff. There is nothing anywhere I can find that gives any indication of the levels required to do this stuff. If I were a new player I would be at least very confused and at most disappointed that I had a long way to go before I could even begin to partake in the events listed.

Great idea poorly implemented.

do i like the storyline? sure - i actually REALLY like the IDEA of it... but, i agree.. this needs some serious work/revamping....

i started a level 1 toon in New Halas (now lvl 9) and nothing in the storylines pertains to my character at all... not in the sense of LEVEL and not in the sense of AREA i'm in except for one small section called frostfang when i scroll almost all the way to the end of the storylines

issue 1 - the journal automatically opens to the ACTIVE tab, even if the last tab i was on before i closed it was the STORYLINE tab... i.e. - i have the journal open on the STORYLINE tab, i zone while the journal is still open, when i am done zoning, the journal is still open, but it is now on the ACTIVE tab...

issue 2 - click on the storyline tab and the first storyline is Sinking Sands? really? isn't that like lvl 45ish? let me repeat - i am currently LEVEL 9

issue 3 - there are tons of "greyed out" story lines? AGAIN - LVL 9 here - there is NO WAY i completed BARREN SKY, yet the row is greyish and when i click on it ... the text states: "You have aided many of the aviaks of the dawn drenched Barren Sky...."

really - i did? i aided aviaks at lvl 9 in a level 60+ zone? i must be super duper ubah! and i don't even remember doing it... OH YEAH - it was one of those night..... /slumps off to sleep for a bit...

back... ok....

suggestions:

1) ONLY open a story line when either condition is met A) character reaches the minimum level for that story line or B) character travels to that area

2) sort storylines by

alignment (i started in New Halas ... i'm level 9... NERIAK is part of my story line? really? yeah... i could probably get quite a few things done in DLW, but i'd be one shot by any wandering guards and i know this because I HAVE PLAYED THE GAME FOR YEARS, a true newbie might think - ok - let me try out darklight woods and POOF insta death if they wander badly.... see below for my travel exploits in DLW at lvl 9 as good aligned....

LEVEL

Completion status

3) like Quests in the normal part of the journal - make the names of the storylines color coded by level

4) allow for sorting

5) allow for "check boxes" next to each storyline... and a "check all" and "uncheck all" option next to "hide completed storylines"... this would allow the user to currently only have in their story line "stories" they want to work on instead of EVERYTHING

6) if character closes the journal while the STORYLINE tab has focus, then the journal (when opened up again) should be on the STORYLINE tab, also - if the journal is open while zoning and on the STORYLINE tab - when done zoning, the STORYLINE tab should still have focus

New Halas Citizen travel exploits in DLW:

It's a sunny morning and i wake up on the island of New Halas off the Frostfang sea, i see some natives looking for help - and being the goodie two shoes i am, i wander off to assist. I kill some mantas, harvest some roots, poison some mushrooms, and then wander off across the sea to the seemingly inhabited iceburg ...

Hmm - this iceburg is interesting, rolling rocks, half eaten pilgrims, a PLAINS area made of snow (which technically should be called a flatlands as i belive plains denotes some sort of vegetation... and besides the PLAINS is about the size of snowy patch.. smaller than the courtyards in the T1 guildhalls, but che sa ra)...

i pick some more plants and begin to wander up to the center of this iceburg and lo and behold - there is a town there! i kind of like the town, i meander around a bit, find my way to some dock area .... but there is no ships at the docks? no bells to ring for a ship to take me to other places? how odd... a dock with no ship... OH - but there's a griffon... let me go talk to the tamer...

by this time - i'm level 9 and want to see what else is in the world, so i open up my trusty journal and find that there are storylines i can follow. I see NERIAK and i remember from someplace that this area has other brand new travellers in it like me - it's a foresty area iirc... let me see if i can figure this out.. how to get there... soo i figure out a way to get to DLW (Griffon to BBM, Griffon to DLW)

after a nice majestic ride on these magnificent creatures, i am deposited in a foresty area AND - the first mobs i see are RED, thank god not the aggro angry red, but RED (treants, lvl 17)... DEEP BREATH...

they're not aggro, so ok - i decide to stay for a few minutes...

i look on my in zone map (eq2maps) and there no quest givers directly around me... this is suppose to be part of a storyline right?... hmmm...

so i open the storyline journal... i see Neriak - Hate's Envy... you'd think this might deter me - HATE'S ENVY ... i'm good.. i know... but ok... it doesn't... so i read the text for the story line: "Begin your exploits as a new recruit of Neriak. Speak to Verex N'Za in Hate's Envy."

new recruit? ok.. things are getting stranger... but i love the forest area compared to the bleh greyness of the new halas landscape... so i trudge on... i try to locate this "Verex" on my maps... OH - there he is... ALL THE WAY OVER on the other side of the zone... let me see if i can get there.... i start out on the path past the treants..

i wander past some really red angry bears and even meaner looking Thexians, but i manage to avoid detection... and keep wandering and end up at THE WANDERLUST FAIR... pretty apropo for my recent travelling experiences.... so i stop on by and see tons of folks needing help... and then BAM I'm one shot by a DREAD GUARD....

so i can revive and i see HATES ENVY as a choice - COOL - this was the FIRST story line in neriak, so i guess i should follow it..

when i regain consciousness, i find that i've been deposited next to a wooden wall surrounding what i assume to be a small town... there are some wolves here, but they don't seem to mind me lying here on the ground, and some guy who wants to tell me about my fate... ok...my fate - maybe this is why i followed the storyline - i'm here to find out my destiny... and he tells me "In time, all must fall. Allow me to teach you the consequences of death and how you can recover properly."

well - my destiny doesn't sound too good after all, so i ignore him and run past him to enter the town and BAM, i'm dead again...

I guess the Neriak storyline isn't really for me after all... too bad it's sitting in my journal....

am i exaggerating - a little sure, could i have done some of the quests - absolutely... but that Neriak is part of a New Halas citizens storyline is a little ridiculous... should it be somewhere in the storyline - SURE - but that it is really for evil aligned characters should be made more prominent, or sorted differently

ok - so now onto working on a story line that i can actually do - Frostfang

i completed ALL the quests for the Storyline 'A Pilgrim's Landing' but there is NO indication that it is complete and it doesn't HIDE when i choose to hide all completed

WITHIN the storyline tab - EACH step of the story line should GREY out or change color as it is completed.

Still using "A Pilgrim's Landing'... there are 6 parts to this story, with icons and some descriptive text on the right side panel of the journal... as each step is completed - the icon and descriptive text should grey out.

PRE-REQUISITES

to go along with my suggestion above (number 3 and color coding the storylines)... IF A STORY LINE NEEDS A PRE-REQ before even starting it and that pre-req IS NOT COMPLETE - the storyline should be RED ... EVEN IF IT IS A LVL 1 story line and the character is lvl 90... if the pre-req is not met .. the storyline cannot be started, so it should be red...

anyhow - sorry for the long post... just all my 2cp...

edited for typos

I'm hoping the text on the story teller is placeholder for now. It doesn't seem right that as a brand new character I am able to read the lore of the major quest lines before I even get to the quests.

The "Crafting in..." headings are out of order in the list. It seems to me that those all should go under the "Crafting the Path of an Artisan" tab.

Legend of the Claymore: This is purely cosmetic in a sense, but the starter quest is incomplete for my older character. I started the quest while living in Qeynos and then moved to Freeport. Just looks funny that it appears that I never started the quest, but I have many quests following that completed. I really think that this quest should come with a warning that betrayal is not recommended until it's completed. Would probably cut down on some CS traffic to get the alignment changes to allow completion.

Well...guess that's all for now since the server is down AGAIN. /sigh

working on a higher level toon:

i apparently was in the middle of some sinking sands stuff: namely - i need to go and talk with Kallon Ebbtide and complete "Kallon's Vengeance".

I went to SS - and Kallon did not have a feather over his head letting me know i there was a quest there (yes - i have "grey" feathers turned on) EDIT: on test_copy - i did not have this option on, it is now on

but i talked with him anyhow - and yes - i did get the quest Kallon's Vengeance.

I completed the quest and went back to talk with Kallon - and the Storyline text DID change, it now STATES that i have completed that part of the storyline {Kallon Ebbtide} but it is not greyed out...

i still think that any part of a story line that is complete should CHANGE COLOR because, i for one, do not have a photographic memory... nor a really good long term memory.... .

so A) if i stop this quest series again for many months, when i open the STORYLINE and see SS and see Kallon Ebbtide - i MIGHT think i still need to complete that step and B) i was paying attention to the text in the right side panel and noticed that it changed, I DO NOT ALWAYS pay this much close attention to the exact words in my journal and might not realize the step is complete

please grey it out

The storyteller system sounds interesting - I just hope it doesn't make the game seem too linear, although with the thousands of quests available now, some organization could definitely help. I'd definitely use it for my alts, since I hate grinding, but I don't feel the need to do every quest again, so something like this sounds fun.

Although my favourite EQ2 storyline is the one that starts with a dragon and a ship, and then a decision to go to Qeynos or Freeport, where you have to earn your way into the city. I miss that storyline.

Things I noticed: Claymore I've completed claymore as evil toon and betrayed, the good side quests "Final report" and "On her majesty's service" are marked as not completed. Same for "Sunwalker and stones" in Tenebrous Tangle. Kylong Plains says I need to collect strange creatures. I've completed the 3 quests before a quest was added that asked you to complete the 3 quests. I guess the storyline doesn't know this. The Shadow Odyssey Like Claymore. Done before betrayal, prologue, 1, 6, 8 not recognized. Odus South Completed base camp as evil toon, asks me to complete base camp for good side Sends me to Zafirah Aamira to get the quest "There must be something more." I did all her quests on release day, seems like this quest was added a day or two later, I don't have it in my journal under completed. Mara crafting I've completed all 4 missions, have the achievment, but says not done Kunark crafting Asks me to do "Fangs Away!", the tradeskill quest line for the sokokar. I've completed the adventure line for the sokokar, thus I can't do the tradeskill anymore Crafting in Rivervale Says "Sarnak Supply stocking" 9 times. Those are quests in RoK, in Fens of Nathsar, not in Rivervale. And "Cloak Quest" with a text just "X". Moors of Ykesha crafting Asks me for "Zubzub's Munchies", no idea what this should be. I've "Zubzub's Munchies I-IV" and they are marked as completed and there isn't anything more. Odus crafting Asks me to do several repeatable tasks I've allready completed and I got an achievment for it. I think the storyteller should somehow be able to read the information from the achievment and mark it as completed. Crafting the Path of the Artisan All marked as done, but not removed despite "Remove completed storylines" being checked.

I'm not really finding all that much use from the storyline system. It's not actually telling the story. It's just telling what happens in the quests required in that line, but no actual detail to the story that comes from doing those quests.

It's a good guide for helping newbies know what quests are in that line, but it's not helping anything relating to the lore.

Though it's impossible to remember this dailog for every quest.

I love the idea of this but I right now I am just left disappointed and confused. There should be some indicator on what I need to still do aside moving my cursor over the icon to see if it is complete or not. And saying Complete and maybe the date is enough... reading I have not or did not or do not have this quest is a pain to read and confusing.

I want a system that will help me keep track of my quests not something I need to figure out and still write down things I have not done. So far wiki sites are still better. The color is horrible too I can not tell the difference between the white and grey... and there are plenty of quests I have completed and it says I haven't.

A for effort however it needs more work if you ask me.
