If you have recently upgraded to the WHQL certified driver version 196.21 or 197.13, and you are experiencing the following:

- fuzz appearing on screen after 30 minutes to 1 hour of use, including during and/or continuing into normal Windows operation on the desktop

- followed by lock-up / refresh freeze and black-screen

- followed by an error with the mention of " ... kernel driver ... successfully restored ..."

Please uninstall your driver and rollback or re-install a previous working version. (For me that was 191.07)

For an example of the issue with user testimony and screenshots, please see this thread:

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?...howtopic=165321

(Scroll down to the middle to see a screenshot showing the exact 'fuzz' appearance)

I had this exact problem on my own machine, running a 9800GT under Windows 7 64.

This may not be an issue for everyone, but for anyone using a GeForce 9-series, or 2 series, I would be aware.

This is an issue affecting fan speed, which in turn caused the card to potentially overheat -- which is what causes the above effects -- and can, unfortunately, permanently damage or destroy your video card.

Nvidia has not yet acknowledged this problem, but they DID acknowledge a similar problem with the 196.75 driver (which was subsequently removed from their website).

Ara
