I've been nosing about a bit recently, seeking information on the Fae Royalty.

Something made me curious, but ... I'm not finding much.

The "coming of age" and "Grender" quest line indicates there have been a succession of Fae Queens, beginning with Queen Joleena and extending to the current Queen Amree.

There is mention that several of the royal "spirit buds" were lost along the way.

However, I am not finding what qualifications lead to the choice of a Fae Queen.

How does one become a Fae Queen (aside from needing to be born a female fae)?

Is it by heredity? Is it by proven worth? What do they do before they become queens?

Were there ever any Fae Kings?

Is Princess Saphronia the natural daughter of Queen Amree, or is she adopted?

... and those are just a few of the questions that have been rattling around the back of my brain of late.

Has anyone found any information specific to the traditions and practices of the Fae royalty?

If you have, any "official" information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Edit: doggoned typos sneaked in on me again. *sighs*

I hope you're questions can be answered sooner or later, but for what I can tell you, the Fairy race in EQlive had Princess Joleena. She really didn't play any real important part in the game, and didn't have much lore behind her other than a clockwork who guarded after here and mimiced the robot from Lost in Space.

When the Fae helped defend and rebuild Kelethin during the War of the Fay, the citizens sort of just agreed that a monarchy might be best for the city. From there, the Queen has been a hereditary descendant from Joleena.

Traditions, Practices, and most of the rest of that information hasn't really been touched.

Disappointing that there really is so little information available. I'd had it in my head it was hereditary, but could not pinpoint where I got that notion.

However, 'tis something of a relief to know that I'd not overlooked an obvious treasure trove of information somewhere.

With all the recent details about the Bayle line, and so much going on in all the other major city rulerships, it occurred to me that I didn't know much about the Fae royalty.

At least I'm not alone in that.

Thank you for the information.

Technically not possible.

The Fae are born into what are called spirit buds. When I say born, I should say they are spontaniously created in the Nursery (or the equivellent in Nerriak/Darklight Woods).

Fae take care of newly born Fae, but they don't have parents per se. Considering this...why exactly do Fae have 2 genders? Probably because Tunare thinks of everything in 2 genders but honestly there could of been a single gender since they don't sexually reproduce.

I guess this rules out half-fae?

Or if there is, I've not found it. (And if so, that wouldn't be the first time something sneaked past without my spotting it. But I have looked!)

There are at least a few references to specific individuals being the child[ren] of another fae, which suggests that procreation is possible. How frequently it happens is not mentioned. It may be comparatively rare.

Princess Saphronia, for example, is specifically called the daughter of Queen Amree. The princess herself even refers to Queen Amree as her mother. Although I've not found anything stating if this is a biological or adoptive relationship, the terms are used.

Other fae speak of being sisters or cousins, etc. again suggesting that procreation did occur at some point. Else there would be no use of biological family terms. Different relationship terms could have been used or invented.

To the best of my understanding, the reasons that the nursery fae were so pleased to have the spirit buds blooming again was to recover individuals and history from the past. They seem to consider it a natural extension of a fae's life to be reborn through a spirit bud. When a spirit bud is lost... then that fae is truly gone, a cause for mourning.

Fae are born, just like everyone else. The spirit bud thing is old lore that was changed before live, but still hangs around. It is now, fae are born, but their spirit buds are a seperate entity that merge with the fae when they come to adulthood, so yes, hereditary is possible.

Way back when, Owlchick (who was responsible for a lot of the lore surrounding Fae) said "Fae families are essentially the same as Feir'Dal: there is a father and a mother and then there are little cherubs." Here's the thread it's from, on Fae reproduction - http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=187544There's also some info which may be helpful here http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=392114

Basically, Adult Fae are similar to Joined Trill in a way, where they are born as the rest of noraths player races are born. However, as they reach adulthood thier spirt becomes restless and seeks out its compainion spirtbud, these join together to become a fully adult fae. However, unlike Trill where the joined being has full access and knowage of all previous lifetimes, and Adult fae only has impressions and memory flashes.
