One request -- please let the prize-winning paintings be available for sale for more than two weeks.

Had I known that the last batch (including Love's Last Arrow) was only for a limited time, I would've been doing writs 24/7 to get the necessary status. (Most of my characters are very young....)

If you cannot allow an extended sales period, please tell us when the pictures will be going "off the market" so we can make plans.

(Oh, and if you find a way to bring back last year's paintings for a brief time, that would be Really Appreciated, too).

Thank you for your attention.

QUESTION!

do the notable norrathians have to be humanoid (like the examples) or can they be dragons also like trakanon or lady vox or whatever, since they had a part in lore as well?

Thanks!

Kiara
04-19-2010, 03:25 PM

Yes, they can be gods or dragons or whatever, so long as they are Norrathian and someone of note

If they only appear in lore and not in game, that's fine, so long as it is official lore please.

Torynn, I really like your piece! I cannot do 3d modeling for the life of me... and EQ2 is a 3d game. I tried to pick up 3d rendering and told myself that anyone can do it... but such didn't ring true. I was much too impatient. So, I quite admire what you've done with your piece.

Here is my entry. It's in a different style than Torynn's wonderful piece - but I hope it comes off well in its own right. If you have any feedback for me... I'm accepting! I probably will tweak at it until the very last day of the contest. I haven't touched it in a few weeks, admittably... but it's lurking.

This is a Thulian's battle against Venril Sathir, the biggest heretic of them all.

And someone forgot to click the statue, dangit.

I can't do 3D modeling either... I just arrange stuff that others have modeled.

The character face posted above is the result of working with a set-up very much like the character creation screens in EQII. Except that there are about 500 more dials to play with. *grins*

Both pictures posted above are quite impressive!

I can see that I'm going to have some stiff competition!

However, I still mean to do my best... and hope my results are worthy to make the top-10 cut.

I'm astounded that this thread is not more active!!Come on folks! There have to be more aspiring artists out there than this.Anyway, I think Torryn's dark elf assault and Ainaree's Venril Sathir battle are a shoo-in.

I've done a writeup on EQ2Wire including mentioning DAZ Studio. Hopefully that will give the final push to get some more entries for this contest!

This is mine, although I may end up changing the whole thing (choosing a different NPC) by the time the deadline runs rolls around, Since we had a shorter deadline, I simply did a modified screen shot, now that the deadline has been pushed out, I'm working on Mayong in DAZ Studio. We'll see if I get him done in time

Lord Vyemm:

Starseeker * Arendul * Ristan * Kyraine * Saewyn * Lyiana * Kicx * Elegi * Anomandaris My Houses: Starseeker's Suite--The Tinkerdome 1.0-- The Tinkerdome 2.0

Probably lot, lol but I've changed my submission to Mayong Mistmoore, wasn't sure if i'd get it done in time.
Starseeker, do you mind a little feedback on your Mayong piece? I really like it, but I have a suggestion for it (which is not really necessary, just a thought I had) if you're up for hearing it.

It has a certain "painted" style to it that I actually really like. In my opinion, and you're certainly welcome to disagree, I think the whole piece could benefit from matching this style. If you saved in layers, you could run a filter or two on the background screenshot and the render part to kind of smudge out the lines so they're not so crisp, giving the whole piece a little more cohesion. Am I making sense? I don't use Photoshop so I can't recommend any specific filter, but I do remember it having some paint filters from when I had the free trial.

Also note, while planning your image keep in mind that the borders of the images may be cropped when they are converted to game art."

So take your image out of the frame and just display the image itself.
There are some really nice entries so far. I'm definately enjoying this challenge, even if it were only because it has finally made me finish one of my EQ2 related art pieces.

Mailed mine, and for all to see here is Tayil N'Velex, wielding the Soulfire. *drumroll*

Yeah, my style is kind of comic-ish. I like to think that if Everquest 2 would ever be made into an animated series, it would look like this.

I'm by no means a great digital colour artist, I feel better about the linework. Tried a bit of cell-shading with this one, which adds to the comic/animated look.

My first try was to stay true to Tayil's armor as seen in game, but she is seen in several places, wearing different things and (if I recall right) different hairstyles. Her armor colours didn't work for me in this picture, so I changed it to something that suited better.

Description:Nature of the Teir'Dal. Trustee to the Overlord, Tayil N'Velex wields the Soulfire in Lucan's absence. Are her treachery and ambition finally revealed?

And you have a lot more options. Character customization usually has at least 20 dials, even for the simplest model.

The first thing to learn: check and see if something provides a geometry/mesh, or if it's only a texture "add-on" for a geometry obtained elsewhere. A texture add-on won't do you much good if you don't have a geometry to apply it to!

With 3D, you can go a *long* way without spendnig a dime. Why do I remember this and not the others? Well... when I forget to log in, the "Free Stuff" link right there on the front-page menu won't work!

If you sign up for Renderosity's weekly email newsletter, there are additional freebies available. Renderosity sends a different link each month in their newsletter (so you get the same link all month long, however many weeks that month lasts).

In addition to hair, clothing, backgrounds and props, you'll also want to look for light sets and pose sets. Making poses by hand takes a longish while. Much easier to customize an existing pose! Same is true for lights, especially at first, unless you have a lot more skill/talent than I did from art and photography classes through college!

Happy experimenting!
