I'm having this strange issue almost every time i try and play. The launcher opens all fine and normal, and then i click the "Play" button. The launcher goes away, but the game window doesn't appear. Everquest2.exe is running when i look at the task manager. I try to end the process and it takes several minutes before it shuts down. when it finally does, i bring the launcher back up and every thing is fine from there. any idea why this is going on?

btw I'm running XP home, all updates current. I run the game in windowed mode if that makes a difference.

Are you using any type of firewall on that computer? If so, please open the exception list for your firewall and delete any entries that contain the words Everquest 2, EQ2, Launchpad, or Voiceservice. Then rerun the patcher(right click an run as administrator if using Windows 7 or Vista). Whenever prompted make sure to select 'allow'.

Most commonly, this happens when a firewall blocks the voiceservice program.

I am having the exact same issue. There is some kind of loop that is triggered on "PLAY" never gets beyond the Start. This began occuring on 4/14/10 at approximately 5PM EDT.

J.

Same thing is going on with me. When I hit play it says it needs to update, then starts looping back and forth between Updating (99% Complete) and Starting. Tried restarting it and logging in and out multiple times to no avail.

I am also having a similar problem. I am running the normal client and I can ge to character select, but once I choose a character to play it freezes at 'Entering games as [character name]' I can only find one of the files mentioned in this thread. I deleted that, deleted the permissions in my firewall and ran launcher as administrator, still freeze. Looked for hidden files and no file with the .part name.

Everyone -

I posted about this earlier this morning - I'm pretty sure it has to do with last night's round of Windows Updates. The game worked fine for me before they installed last night.

It would be helpful if one or more of you could uninstall the updates from last night ONE AT A TIME, testing EQ between each removal, to narrow down which of the 4/15 updates caused the break. Post your findings here to benefit everyone. I'd do it myself, but I'm at work now.

-Ian

Well I'm glad that some of you have solved your problems, but I don't think it's the same problem I initially posted. I have no problem with the launcher or updates, this was happening before trhe most recent update. The problem I am having is that once I hit the play button on the launcher, it runs EverQuest2.exe, but the window never comes up. This happens alomost everytime I try and start the game, but just once. After I terminate Everquest2.exe and try again it works fine. It just happens to take quite a long time for EverQuest2.exe to termintate after i hit the end proccess button.

I have no firewall, and i was checking the task manager, it seems that the voice service doesn't even start until I'm in game with a specific character. I don't even get that far, so I don't think that's the issue

I would just like to say that me and a friend both have the same issue as soysauc3, not the billion other people who hijacked this thread, additionally I occasionally have to run the launcher, kill the everquest2.exe process, wait 5 minutes for it to close, and then repeat the process again and on the third time i run the launcher i can actually play. Running XP proffesional 64-bit here, friend is running XP home 32 bit I believe.
