I have just upgraded my PC with a new motherboard, cpu and graphics card. I have re-installed windows 7 (64) and the original game from cd. I then updated the Sony folder with a copy of the original files I had prior to these changes (to save download time). Im noticing a few game glitches and I have not seen a marked improvement in game performance as I had hoped (upgrade from Nvidia 7950GTX to Radeon 5850). Does anyone know if the game installation is graphics card/system specific and would I be better with a clean install since I have made so many changes to my system?

One thing to remember - although they have moved some graphics rendering from the cpu to the gpu, there still is a lot of the code on the cpu, there is some multi-core support also, but the game is not truely coded for 100 percent SMP unitlization. A slower speed processor could be the base cause for the performance issues that you are seeing and not the vcard.

Thanks Wing, that is helpful. I still need to do some tweeking of drivers and such like, as well as overclocking the cpu, but I was a bit suprised by the absence of improvement even without these changes. I will try deleting the cache folders and see if that helps.

Here is the full list of files I would recommend deleting when moving your game files to a new system:

cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

All of those file should be in your Everquest 2 directory.
