<p>I acquired Blocking Mastery a couple of days ago and I am dazed and confused.</p><p>The description of Blocking Mastery states that it increases my chance to block by 24%.</p><p>When I open the Persona panel I see in the right hand column bright green text declaring that my chance to block is increased by 25% (was at 1% prior to acquisition of Blocking Mastery).</p><p>However, when I hover my cursor over the text for Avoidance in the left hand column I see NO INCREASE WHATSOEVER in my blocking percentage in the breakdown of the Avoidance stat.</p><p>What gives? Did I get a 24% increase in my chance to block or didn't I?</p><p>Is it just not being reported properly in the breakdown of the Avoidance stat.</p>

<p>Block chance used to be Shield Effectiveness.  Thus, the 24% increase to your block chance is a 24% increase to shield effectiveness.  It increases the effective protection value of your shield.  If you aren't using a shield it won't have any effect on your avoidance.</p>

<p>Of course I'm using a shield.</p><p>In spite of the fact that I'm using a shield I see no increae in the block percentage listed under the breakdown of Avoidance.</p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">The block chance shown under your avoidance is your base without the bonus added to it.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>To calculate you real block chance after bonus it’s</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"> </span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Avoidance Block Chance * (1+Block Chance Bonus) Capped at 70%</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"> </span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">So if your avoidance block chance is 24% and your bonus is 25% your real block chance is <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>.24*(1+.25)= 30%.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>It’s fairly easy to get your bonus over 60% but the higher your Avoidance Block Chance is the better.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>To can work backwards to calculate what your avoidance block chance needs to be to hit the 70% by using the formula</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"> </span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Avoidance Block Chanced Needed = .70 / (1+ Current Block Chance)</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"> </span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Block is uncontested in that it the mobs level doesn’t matter when calculating your chance to block.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>Parry is contested in that the higher the mobs level the less effective it is.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>So for instance tanking parry is useful but if your raiding parry just isn’t worth it until after you hit the 70% block cap.</span></span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;"> </span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">At least this is how I understand Block to work.</span></span></p>

<p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">Are you sure about that?<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I don’t see a significant difference in my block chance between mobs of different level.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">  </span>I do see a huge change in Parry chance as mob level increases or you move from Heroric to Epic.</span></span></p>
