I'm changing my computer over to windows 7 from XP and wanted to save the patch time by just backing up the eq2 files. But I want to make sure this will work. I'm not sure if theres any un-copy-able files or OS specific files that might cause problems later.

Just want to make sure.

This works.

I just did it last week on a new machine I built.

The way I do it, is copy the Everquest II folder to an external drive. Once the OS is up, patched, and PC is running stable (drivers installed, etc), I load up the DVDs and install the game. Then, I take the files from the external drive, and copy/paste them. I tell Windows to copy over everything.

Voila, it works and all of your stuff is still the way you had it, complete with logs, etc.

If you use ventrillo or ACT, that information does get lost. Be sure to get your vent info written down. As to ACT, you can export your timers into an XML file, which after re-installation, you can import again.

Good luck with the install.

If you have trouble after transferring the files then you might want to delete the .ini files and the UI folder out of your Everquest 2 directory. Even that isn't necessary in most cases, though. Simply transferring the files over should work fine.
