Hi there,

Yesterday I upgraded my onboard HD3200 video to a PCIe XFX HD4770 video card.

Frame rates jumped from 11/2 to 50/60/70 at 1680x1050 when out in the wilds of Antonica etc. Fantastic video upgrade and I am able to turn up much of the detail. It's like playing a enw game !

However, following the upgrade I no longer have any sound coming out of the mainboard sound card. Nothing, nada.

Could the XFX HD4770 video card be redirecting my sound somehow ?

I have heard of people having issues with sound being redirected out through the HDMI ports of their video cards. The XFX HD4770 has two DVI outputs so I am not sure if this could be the issue.

Any help appreciated as to where I could start looking.

PC is an Dell with AMD X2 240 cpu, 4GB RAM, Windows Vista 32bit.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,

Is this happening for everything on that computer or just Everquest 2? If it's happening with everything then you might get better information by contacting Dell's support since they will have more details about how that specific system is set up.

That said, the first thing I would check would be the device manager. I would disable the onboard video through there and make sure that the on board sound is still showing up correctly. Let us know if you have any questions about that.

Yes it's complete sound loss.

I opened a ticket with XFX last night but so far not had a reply. I thought I would try here as there are so many knowledgeable people in the forum.

I will take a look in the device manager and see what's up.

Thanks.

The sound is back.

I had to go into my BIOS and turn the onboard sound back on.

Seems like XFX turn it off during the installation of their video card.

All is well and now I have music accompanying my faster graphics !!

Thanks.
