New to Ranger (lvl 14) and, after reading the boards, am slightly confused. Is it better for me to get up close and personal with clothies right from the start (ie using my stealth strikes), or to stand off and just pepper them?

It's my policy to still shoot for standing in the sweet spot, knowing that some jousting might be needed. The sweet spot is the place where both your melee combat arts, and your ranged arts, will work. It's roughly 5 steps back from the mob. You can tell you've hit it when all of your icons light up. Ideally this means you can maximize your dps by using the auto attack on your bow, with ranged arts used inbetween, and when those are refreshing, some of the melee combat arts. Some melee arts should be used often, like Bloody Reminder, so being in that spot makes that much simpler to do.

And of course you should try to be behind them as well, though this of course depends on where you are. Jousting just means there are times and siturations where you will just need to move in, and then back out, espeically to avoid AEs.

Find that sweet spot, learn to work it, I don't think that has really changed. If the community disagrees, well I'm sure I'll hear about it.

If you already know all this, I appologize.
