Hi

I am a returning player, but I can't run EQ2.

My Specs are:

HP HDX 18 Laptop with NVidia GT 130M Video card. Latest drivers (even tested Beta) curr. 195.81.

Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit Op System. 4 Gig RAM.

I've tried Run As Administrator, Compatability mode XP SP3 and SP2 etc, disabled UAC completly. I am using Fetish Nightfall atm, but crashes on Default UI also.

I am able to log in, but after 1-10 minutes, the laptop just switches off. I thought it was an overheat issue, I've run HW Monitor to spot temps, and although I see the GPU core temp slowly rising, the game switches of my laptop anywhere between 65 deg C and 85 Deg C.

Other games work fine (AoC, WoW, LoTRo, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age etc). Although I am sure this crash happened with Warhammer Online as well when I tried the Trial.

I've browsed and googled quite a lot, and surmise this maybe a power issued on 4gigs memory? But really difficult to diagnose.

I have a call open with HP, but they won't support it because EQ2 does not support Win 7 64Bit, although plenty of other people seem to be running it fine.

Any ideas?

I am having the same issue.

HP HDX 18t-1200 notebook with NVidia GT 130M, 4G Ram, Vista 64 and running EQ2 in windows XP SP2 compatibility mode as admin.

I am lvl 15 in the caves and when I log in I crash any where between 10 seconds and 2 hours. When it crashes, the PC shuts off completely and instantly.

I also installed the latest GT 130M NVidia driver that came out March 2010.

Please help. I am on day 2 of my trail and love the game and was ready to subscribe, then these crashing problems started happening which is detering me from becoming a paid subscriber.

The 85 degrees you're quoting is actually pretty hot. Do you have unrestricted airflow through the bottom of the laptop?

Generally, a complete shutdown without prompting or an error message is a power supply or heat problem. Try lowering the system heat as much as possible as a first step. If the problem persists at that point then it might be time to contact the system manufacturer.

I heard back from support and their solution to my problem was: "We don't support laptops"

ROFL - what a great way to lose 30% of your customer share. Guess I won't be playing EQ2 anymore.

Generally, what they're saying is correct. We don't support laptops since it's impossible to test all of the hardware combinations and proprietary software they put in there for compatibility. That said, we always try to assist for as long as possible before getting to the point where we need to say something like that. Chances are that you spoke with a newer tech who wasn't aware of how that policy should be applied.

Wizz,

Sorry if this is so late, but I am having the same problem with my 64 bit Vista HP HDX 18T with GT 130M as well. I have never played Everquest II, but this happens when I play a variety of games, both old and new such as World of Warcraft, Jedi Academy, Deus Ex, Warhammer, and others. It sometimes happens within 30 seconds of starting the game, sometimes after several minutes or even hours. There was one level in particular in Jedi Academy where it would do it over and over again once you got to a certain point. And in WoW, if I used the right mouse button to rotate my view on a gryphon (especially in Northrend), it would trigger the shutoff. I cannot even play Titan Quest, as the second I get to a certain spot outside the tutorial area my computer automatically shuts off. I do not beleive it is a heating issue, as I can play many modern graphics intensive games for hours with no symptoms.

I think the problem may be related to some sort of defect in the nVidia GT 130M line of graphics card or perhaps some sort of other hardware issue not related to any particular game.

Hope this helps,

-Alex
