View Full Version : HIGHER framerate when AA is working?

Just as the subject says, I've noticed a very strange trend while trying to get antialiasing working. My framerates, while not normally "bad" (20-35 on average in uncrowded areas) seem higher across the board when AA is actually working, and quite dramatically lower (anywhere from 5 to 30, depending on the scene) when it's not displaying, regardless of whether it's forced in driver options or not.

Has anyone else noticed this, and is there a way to make AA work CONSISTENTLY on an ATI card? I have the "r_aa_blit 1" line in my eq2.ini and 8x AA (box) forced in Catalyst Control Center, all bloom options in-game are disabled. From what I've noticed today, it seems that AA is working indoors, but not outdoors (despite bloom being off, I know they're incompatible).

On a semi-related note, AF works but is quirky-- it looks beautiful, but the effect disappears unless I have something (anything) targeted, have certain ui windows on the screen, or look at certain tooltips (certain items/spells do, others don't). Is this just weirdness with the game, or has nobody else experienced it?

I run the game in windowed mode (maximized) at a desktop res of 1600x1200@60Hz. In-game settings seem to have no effect on either of these issues.

General info:

Windows 7 Pro x64

core 2 Q6600 @ 3.0GHz, 8GB RAM

Diamond HD4870 1GB (driver version 9.11)
