If your OS is Vista or Windows 7, make sure you have the installer set to run as administrator. You will also need the game and it's launcher running with admin privledges once you get it installed.

I really wish that SOE would change the default install location to something else. The biggest problem, IMO, is that the game is installing into a protected folder on Vista and Windows 7. This is all fine and good for programs that don't regularly update and modify themselves but a pain in the UAC for software like MMOs.

I run Windows 7. It's a great OS and I have zero issues running EQ2 (or any MMO). But I always install any game outside of the Program Files and ProgramData directories.

In the case of the OP, I recommend opening your C:ProgramData directory, select the Sony Online Entertainment folder, and drag it to your root directory or into a Games directory you create in your root. You will need to repoint any shortcuts you may have on your desktop and probably relink the new install location in the Launcher under Options.

If you do this you shouldn't need to Run as Administrator or in Compatibility Mode or any other mode. You also should stop getting these errors. You may have to tell your Firewall to allow access the first time you run from the new location.
