My wife and I have played EQII almost since its launch. We very soon upgraded to station access so we could utilized the many character slots. We really haven't cared for anything else you get for the station access, but have continued to pay the $30 a month for each of us for years. We quit playing last year because we could not afford it and have since come back, but still that $30 a month (totalling to $60 for both of us a month) is just a bit much. We are entertaining the idea of downgrading back to just a normal account. I know we will lose character slots for this. Does anyone know for certain how many slots you get for basic accounts? And how can we choose what toons we still have access to and which ones we won't, and will the ones we won't get deleted or will they still be stored?

I REALLY wish that SOE would have made a feature for you to pay a couple bucks more just for character slots....that's all we care about, we don't care about having access to all the other games we don't even play, let alone not even own.

Thanks in advance.

Regular is seven slots, your seven most recently played characters show up. I too downgraded.

I would like this sort of thing, too. I'd be willing to pay an extra $5/mo for just the extra character slots. I don't play any of the other games, though I did once upon a time play Vanguard (but the lack of progress on improving the game in ways it needed to be improved has since soured me on trying to return again). EQ2 is my only vice currently. I wouldn't mind finding a way to make it a little less expensive.

And as for downgrading, I'd prefer they ask what 7 characters to retain access to, rather than assuming the last 7 are the ones I want.

I actually did the same a couple of years back, there are a few things to remember.

For whatever reason it doesn't remove said chars, only the 7 last logged in show up so you can /camp character8 where character8 is the actual charactername and go to them. There are no guarentee's on availability of these characters however that has worked for some years.

One major thing you will have a problem with however, since you have had station access since launch the adventure packs were added that route. Even though you receive then with expansions when you go to a regular account they will end up being removed (unless they changed this in the past few months as I have helped others with this)

When this happens to you the easiest route is to call customer service and explain the situation of downgrading from a station account to a regular account and that you should have them flagged from whichever all on one expansion you ever bought EoF onwards had them.

I ended up personally going with 2 accounts for dual boxing and more chars for the same money as the station account.

You won't lose any of your existing characters, however if your account has more than 7 characters on it, you'll only SEE the last 7 characters. You can still camp over to them manually by doing /camp charactername If you forget what their names are, log in to EQ2 Players and view your character list, or select from the launcher. You also won't be able to create new characters unless you have less than 7 characters on the account.

As already stated, you can get to all your characters by being in game and typing /camp charactername. It will log out of your current character and in to the character you typed.

Also, that character will start showing up on your character select, and one of the characters that was showing up on your character select will now not be showing up.

One last trick you can also do is edit a file in your everquest 2 directory. There will be a file named after your account name. In it there is a list of characters. This is the file that the launcher uses to show you available characters to load at the character select screen. You can manually modify this file to show the ones you want to see. It still wont let you see more then 7, but you at least get to pick the ones you want to see by putting them in this file. Please note that the first time you do a /camp charactername in game and log out, it will change this file.

Personally, I wish they would just offer a service you could purchase in the Marketplace for like $5 bucks to permanently add a character slot to your account. I would totally do it... multiple times haha.

I saw a post where they emphatically stated how difficult it is to add slots, and how they won't do it until they fix many, many other things. If it was me, I would prioritize this, as it's a sure money maker if you let people buy slots. I would love to have 9 slots so i could have one of each crafter on a single account.

SOE makes money and the players get their extra slots
