Win 7 Home -- Streaming. From what it appears, when I logged onto char select and then afterwords selected a toon and logged into a zone, that it was downloading the entire zone. After loading resources which took at least 10 minutes, it then updated the environmental map for at least that long.
The assetcache folder is where all the downloaded information is stored for the streaming client. It is possible that something with the recent update caused some corruption with this folder and that is why some players are unable to login and others were re-downloading information they already had.

Um, renamed assetcache to astcache as well and it made it WORSE, it's now downloading MORE information than before

All renaming it did for me is that it ignored the renamed folder and then created a NEW folder called assetcache and started redownloading -everything-.

Hey guys.

We're having trouble reproducing the "Next pointer or Block is corrupted" error message internally. If you renamed your assetcache directory and didn't delete the old files, I'd love to take a look at them. If you still have them, please PM me and tell me how many files you have and about how big they are.

As far as the streaming client redownloading everything... It's a long and sordid tale, but the short story is that when the streaming client launched most files had their "version" calculated incorrectly. We were testing out a highly choreographed fix that involved pushing new asset lists with the correct version calculation along with a tool that would fix everyone's already downloaded assets. Apparently, someone jumped the gun and pushed the new asset lists without the tool. The version on nearly every asset changed to the correct version which means that everyone's streaming client thought that it had to re-download nearly every asset. They were immediately deleted and queued for download, hence the several-hundred-MB-to-several-GB download indicators that people were seeing. However, when you shut down and restarted the client, it forgot about every asset that you had previously downloaded and your download indicator went back to on-demand assets only.

My apologies for this. I'd take advantage of that option of course, but just saying

Anyways, to everybody else, I totally uninstalled everything [Backed up my uisettings file of course] and reinstalled and am no longer getting redownloads. Everything streams only once again. A price to pay but worth it imo.

Edit: Ugh forgot my saved searches

Well personally I often start up the game then go grab a drink, etc. while it does patching etc. Might as well let it keep streaming files until you get back to hit Play instead of wasting the time .

Thanks for explaining Autenil

Yes I'd like it to be optional as well.

Namely, the client will download the following without waiting for it to be needed:

The appearance cache. This is actually required during the "Caching Appearances" step the first time you see the zoning screen after starting the client, but the client will start pulling it down (it's about 20MB and changes often) as soon as it can.

Character create assets. This is most of the assets you need to create a new character (all races, genders, textures, some animations, etc). You'll need this to render other players anyways.

Starting zones. These are the assets you need to get into the new player zones as well as the basic resources for all of the zones your characters are currently located in.

All of these prefetch scenarios are very common to most of the player base. When I do the "download the rest of the game during idle time" fetching, it will most likely be optional and dependent upon you having more than enough hard disk space at the onset.

Also, most prefetches are paused while zoning to make sure that the zone you're currently going into is given highest priority.

have you checked out this forum

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...ow.m?forum_id=4

It sounds like you have a security issue. Perhaps something you recently installed or a windows update that changed your security settings.

It also would be helpful if you specified if it was the streaming client, the Station Access launcher or the EQ2 launcher. They all install everquest 2 in one form or another.

I've been trouble free with the Station Access launcher and the streaming client.
