I was copying the two DVDs that come in the retail version to my local HDD (it makes installing easier, faster, and preserves the discs). All was going well until I began copying Disc 2, wherein my anti-virus program popped up informing me that the file EQII_Autorun.exe was a Trojan virus!

What up wit' dat?!?

Malicious software is passed into the target computer in many ways. One of them is to disguise the file as a common harmless file, like autoexec.exe. Because the autoexec.exe file is known to be used to pass malicious software at times, many virus checkers will flag a file with that name, regardless of actual file content.

If your source is trustworthy (ie a major commercially produced DVD) the chances of it being a false positive are virtually 100%. Virus checkers are not foolproof and they will give erroneous results. Since folks are generally more forgiving of security software that is too stringent than with software than misses the bad stuff, if makes sense that false positives are going to occur sometimes. This is one reason why most install software tells you to disable virus software before doing the install, as many things occur during an installation that looks just like malicious software installing itself.

McCaffe is high up there also.

Avast, MS Security Essentials are a better choice in the way of free products if you use it that way. Kaparsky, Bit Defender, Trend are all on the tp end of the list for best choices in the pay for use versions.

There is no virus in the disks

I cannot get past the virus alert. Is any of the content on the 2nd disc necessary to have installed? If this disc is important how do I get the contents installed? The content won't auto install. I'm not that good with computers so please folks go easy on me. Thank you.
