Hi all,

Being a new player to the game, I have been reading the stickies at the top of the page in the search for a build that takes my fancy. After much consideration, I have decided that I want to go the Battle Cleric route but also want the ability to heal in groups at a higher level (when I get there). There seem to be many builds and as I have no knowledge of the game could someone please post a suggestion for me on where to spend my AA's as I level? Also, what stats should I be looking at on the gear? I am not sure what to focus on - do I go for healing stats or melee.

If it is any help I will be focussing purely on PvE as I level.

Thanks in advance,

Akeaz

Inquisitor is a good choice for a first time player however the class itself does not shine until you get 30 to 40 AA points and beyond. Since you will have limited resources, hopefully a guild can help you a little, one of the things you can try is to start on the Inquisitor tab of the AAs. Spend 3 points on Invocation Strike, Withering Strike, Strike of Flames, Litany Circle. Spend 2 point on Act of War (it costs two per level). Then 3 points on Strike of Corruption. At this point you can max the Strikes to 5 points if you wish or go to the Cleric tree. This will save you money on some spell upgrades short and long term.

On the Cleric AA tree you can go 4-10 under Agility. Or 4/4/10 under Stamina. I like the double attack offered by the Agility line but some might go for the criticals under Stamina. Either way will likely work.

Since AA is important to an Inquisitor you might want to slow the leveling down once you hit 22 (new armor) by changing your slider to give you more AA instead of experience but you can work out what is best for you. Slowing it down will allow you to buy armor/spells and keep them current while you accumulate other resources and add AA points.

Edit:

PS Also in the Inquisotor tree under the Battle line (Strikes) you can get Battle Cleric ability once you spend the required number of points to activate it. Battle Cleric is worth the two points spent.

The guide is not yet up to date. With Sentinels Fate SOE changed out damage to be based on WIS. Beside that STA will give you more HP. So that is what you should look for while leveling up. For AA Striking gave one good example. About the Agility / Stamina Tree. That is how they where called befoce the current revamp, as each had a stat to improve as first AA. From left to right that where STR, AGI, STA, WIS, INT. You will find these nameds still very often. I'll try to update my guide to use new nameds but currently it also still uses the old ones. Based on that putting 4/10/10 into the "Stamina-Tree" is also valid. You also don't loose out on healing going that way. You should still be fine to solo heal a group through all the content from 21 to 80. Only the harder full group instanced near the max level will require a more heal centric build. Using an AA Mirror you can even have a solo and a heal build that you can switch from inside you house. (Not so important for now).

It wasn't until I hit 80 and started doing some harder raid content that I got an AA Mirror and did a separate raid build with a full healing spec to it.

i dont have screenshots of my Inquisitors AA tree's... however i would start off my AA's by either turning my spell attacks into Melee attacks, increasing my Crit/double attack. Also i beleive its what used to be the INT tree for the increased casting speed buff. Sadly you will be soloing most of the times if you arent atleast lvl 85. My Inq is lvl 90 with 199 AA, in a hybrid spec to dps (average 2-3k in groups, 5k at most) and to heal ( good enough to solo heal VD : Cella . I solo pretty well.. slow at times, but well enough for a Cleric. It does take alot of AA to make this class useful, and not give you a headache from slow killing/soloing. Give it some time, it is fun in the end

First off, welcome to one of the most awesome classes in the game. I've played a lot of classes to cap (well, before cap was 90) and I have to say the Inq is the one I've fallen in love with.

There's already a lot of great AA advice on this thread. When I was levelling, I tried a lot of different combos before I hit 50 aa, and what worked best for me was Yaulp (the first AA on the Cleric page), and then the full Battle Cleric line (on the Inquisitor page). Then I went back and worked on my crit and double attack. I didn't have much trouble solo or in groups while my inq was growing up.

As far as gear is concerned, depending on how quickly you level you may want to get yourself a set of mastercrafted sta/wis armor made at ever x2 level. So 22, 32, 42, etc. The rare metals for that armor can be expensive, depending on your server and whether or not you're doing your own harvesting, so if you're levelling quickly you can get by just fine in handcrafted (which isn't as good) or random treasured drops and quest gear (pretty much almost always not as good). The most important thing, in my mind, is going to be staying on top of your spells and your weapon. Get yourself a good two-handed mace or staff, and try to keep your spells at least at the adept level while you're grinding. I think my weapon of choice in the lower tiers was the staff from the Greenhood questline in Zek. Branch of the Treefolke. At least a couple of months ago, you could pick them up on the cheap from the broker.

At the higher end, you can look forward to all kinds of good things in PvP and PvE. I'm loving the new punishments line (Inquisitor page) for supplemental healing while I'm in dps mode. That said, my guild tends to run with two healers in groups just because we have so many healers in guild. With decent gear and aas, you can heal with the best of them, and still be able to put up passable dps numbers. Not always at the same time, but I've seen better-skilled and geared inquisitors do some crazy stuff. In PvP our punishments can do fun things to the other team, and our two group cures (the second comes from our mythical weapon, or from completing the epic repurcussions questline in Sentinel's Fate) can really help our teams out.

If you have any questions in game, you can join guk.inq (I think that's the right channel name) to get realtime advice from other players. Or send me a tell @ splitpaw.kinnet, but I'm kind of a scrub.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply, they all make perfect sense and have answered my questions! My main trouble has been getting my head round the jargon but you have all avoided over complicating it.

A much happier Inq!

Akeaz
