I can't go:(

Is there anything along the lines of a webcast of it, or ways we at home can join in any reindeer games?:)

Would be cool to be able to watch folks having fun, or HEY! Remember how they had online hunting? Not that I am suggesting...well..not that I am suggesting that...lol, but maybe something similar in nature ( minus the killing of anything would be the big difference).

Hrmmm.....I ask for too much dont I?:)

Is there any chance of actually getting this somewhere OTHER than vegas next year???

It costs an absolute fortune to get there from england, purely because it's a tourist destination.

Most likely not, because it's cheaper for everyone to attend in Vegas than anywhere else in the country.

*gulp* .. $138 to feel special? Which would be $278 for me & the hubby 'cause I don't go to fun things without him. .. Unless we win the lottery anytime soon guess we're going to have to be happy with our non-special selves .. lol.

Thanks for getting this info out so soon, though! Nice to have time to schedule & save a bit.

Unlike most other places this can be heald.

Granted from England it is cheaper to say goto an Atlanta Fan Faire then a Vegas one(assuming you can't/don't rent a car). But the opposit is true for people from say Japan or Hawaii, or Australia and it isn't because of tourism, but because of distance, you need much more fuel to get to Vegas then to get to Atlanta.

One thing you have to remember is that there are only so many hotels with the ablity to host a convention of 2k+ people, and outside of Vegas most of those the room prices are much higher. Also very few of them have more then one dinning area, at Bally's for instance I paid around $7.00 I think for each of my lunchs and never once left the Hotel. So the heat was a non-issue.

BTW, looking at the prices for the most part it is about $300 more for someone from London to goto Vegas over the East Coast cities I checked, but remember chances are very good that either your going to pay outragous prices for food in the Hotel or are going to have to rent a car of some type. Both are far less likly in Vegas. Oh and that $300 is split between two people sharing a room.

Fan Faire in August, PAX in September. Would be one heck of a late summer!

I hate Vegas, but at least it isn't LA.

You all should consider Seattle some time. The convention center is really awesome, and you can just take a single floor if you wish. The city is very pedestrian accessible and there are a dozen hotels within walking distance with varying prices. It's also an extremely gamer/geek friendly city and SoE has a development office here

Who's bright idea is it to schedule fan faire in Vegas in August the hottest part of the year? 85-90 degrees is bad enough and to plan a trip to a place in the 100s,no thank you. I think it would be much nicer to get away from a cold weather climate and hit Vegas when the temperature at home is cold. I know my family of 3 EQ2 players will never experience fan faire in its current seasonal time slot.

I would imagine that it is cheaper for SOE to send all their employees to Vegas then anyplace else...

However $700 + is a bit much in these times

I did suggest to Rothgar (if he's not still busy fixing Battlegrounds in July) that he add a Cheap Eats section to his AWESOME SOE Fan Faire iPhone app. We blew most of our budget on expensive meals, and not on purpose!

Yes, the casino is very visable and can be seen and there are few walls between it and the non-gaming areas, but the line does exsist.

The hotel links to Paris directly so you have a choice of restaurants and the like.

I -hate- Vegas in Aug and hate hate hate hot weather/places but the AC is good

What Rijacki said. And frankly, Fan Faire is so PACKED with panels and stuff to do that I for one never get to leave the hotel unless I stay an extra day

PS - as for Vegas and the cost for some players.... look, no matter where they put it it's going to be inconvenient for someone; there's no way to make it "fair" unless you put it in Antarctica or something. Last year there were over 2000 attendees: in Vegas you at least stand a really good chance of staying in the same hotel as the convention. Last year Bally's threw us a great room rate and kept adding blocks of rooms to the offer so more people could stay cheap.

So holding it somewhere like Orlando or Atlanta, also cities with hotels that have convention centers plenty big enough to accomodate 2000 attendees isn't feasible? Orlando holds the record for conventions besides Vegas, and there are plenty of commuter flights to Orlando and international flights as well. Give me a break, it's been held in Vegas too many years running. I've attended three Fan Faires, including one in Vegas, but I'll never attend again as long as I can't drive to it or fly in one hop.

Like I have said befor in this thread, the devs stated in the offical Fan Faire boards that Vegas is a fall back place, when the place they WANT to go to falls though, because only Vegas can reliably accomidate a convention of the size and complexity of Fan Faire on short notice. Also it is not just the 2,000 people it is also the ablity to have high speed secure connections back to San Diego Corperate, so they can access the servers that contain the expainsion, new game servers, as well as the ablity to support 30 or so PCs in the game area in the Legonds Lounge, and a secure connection for the game play tournyments. There also needs to be 2 very large convention rooms, Legonds Lounge, and the hall for the Banquite/Keynote address, as well as 2 or so 500-600 person halls, plus 4 or so 100+ person halls. Yeah, being able to hold 2k+ people in One hall is easy for a convention center, it is far more difficult hold that many people in one room, and still have the 7 other rooms available.

Wyeth wrote:

Artemiz@The Bazaar wrote:

If Fan Faire is going to be in August this year can we expect the next expansion to be pushed out even further, say May-June 2011?

I was thinking of going this year but honestly all I have heard was that essentially nothing talked about during Fan Faire as paraded for the next xpac was delivered. . . so what can we really expect to get out of it? I guess you could say Shader 3.0 but they are still activly working on that. Nearly everything they the devs bring to Fan Faire is infact delivered. Granted they may OVER hype it or many people may not want it(LoN) but it is delivered, because what THEY bring to Fan Faire usually is in the final stages of development. There is also generally a huge list of things PLAYERS bring up at Fan Faire, and many of those are also implimented, but not all, for many differant reasons.

The big thing at last years Fan Faire(other then expainsions and such) was the fighter revamp, and they DID deliver it, WE just didn't accept that delivery.
