View Full Version : Public Service Announcement: Player-Made BG Armor Exists

I've been noticing a lot while reading these forums and while looking at level chat in-game that a lot of people don't realize that there is player-crafted BG armor available even on the PvE servers.

EQ2 Traders' Corner has a set of screenshot along with the names of the armor for both level 80 and 90. These armors have the toughness stat that will allow you to survive getting 1-shot and generally make things a little better for you in the Battlegrounds. Check it out.

I know the starter set is from rares like incarnadine, but for sets like the Gruengach sets, what is required for them? I can't even find them on LootDB to check their stats.

The level 80 crafted set cost like 7-14p for a full set worth of rares and is better for pvp than most shard armor.

Unfortunately, the gain in Tougness typically doesn't offset the massive loss in damage output from wearing it. (For the T1 Tradeskilled stuff, that is.)

I've tried both and found that I do increase survivability by wearing the MC stuff, but my DPS takes an enormous hit. personally, I think we either need better MC stuff or they need to take toughness off the normal pvp armor and keep it as a BG only stat.

Have you adorned your BG armor? That can probably make up for at least some of the DPS. And of course bear in mind that DPS is significantly decreased in PvP unless you're a wizard/warlock going against someone not in BG/PvP armor.

For more survivability I have changed my AA spec to a PvP one for when I'm doing BGs and I survive perfect. Able to take more hits and am in some 2 pieces of t2, 1 of t3 and 2 of t1 and an adorned Jarsath Robe of Royalty with Mythical. So hang in there you just gotta rework things a little bit.

Besides, while the adorns will help some, they will not make up anywhere close to what I lose by switching to BG armor. It's not like I'm in T4 or avatar gear here either.

Also, my testing was done by starting in my normal PvE gear and then switching to the MC BG gear halfway through a full day of playing. So I understand that damage is reduced in BG. I respecced my AAs before going into BG, since I helped test it and have previous PvP experience, thus knew what was coming. This will do more good, IMO than the MC BG gear for some classes.

That being said....get rid of the robe of royalty, man. Pick up something with better output for casters. So it is absolutely not tedious at all to obtain. The only ones gating you from it are your own crafters /shrug

No TSO pvp jewelery exists bar a few ridiculusly expensive raid items made available at the last minute). So someone with access to full T4 + avatar stuff will own at pvp but not be invincible due to toughness (we pvp-ers had a huge problem with a specific guild who were able to kill Avatars on Nage until the price of open world pvp gear dropped loads - so we know what we are talking about). But for those who are unable to get that kind of gear, the lv84 BG armour is on a par (at the very least) with T3 shard armour.

As for aa's, VERY good point that alot of people have probably overlooked and where we pvp-ers definitley have an advantage. Use your aa mirror to set up a pvp and a pve spec. We pvp-ers have been doing so for years so know what we are doing, also we are always in our pvp spec whenever we would join a BG (only time for the pve spec is while pve-ing (ie in an instance/raid where pvp is not available) so can continue with our normal play and simply jump into a BG whenever we choose.

A fix for this could be to change the way BG's work, make the access to them more WoW like (ie have a few hubs in the big cities where people need to go and chat to an NPC to entre the que) but then this would lag out the cities loads.

Most important thing for PVE'ers to remember, in order to PVP you need to be able to survive. That means spec all of your aa's into survivability, loose some dps but stay alive! Also, taunting works in pvp. PVE tanks need to learn to taunt their arses off, if the opposition get to your mages/scouts then your group will have no dps. So taunt taunt taunt, get them hitting you (something you cant do simply by dps-ing as most of you are trying/prob used to) so your dps's can kill the opponents dps's.

The T8 stuff is easy to get...

Crafters buy the book from the Far Seas Faction guy in Mara (putting this here as I know some crafters were unaware of this point... myself included!) and then they can make the level 80 Battlegrounds gear. It takes 1 T8 rare per piece to craft.

The T9 stuff is harder because the crafter has to run the Kerra Isle daily faction quest... every day... for a good couple of weeks to get the required 40k faction to buy the [Removed for Content] book (at least for armourers and tailors). I think they should've made this book a little easier to obtain... I'm -still- working on the faction with my Tailor cos I missed a few days.

Its also worth noting that it takes 10k faction with the Far Seas Trading Division to buy the level 80 BG armor recipe books...

BG mastercrafted gear is [Removed for Content]. T3 and better puts BG MC gear to shame. That goes for 90 MC also. It's almost like the toughness on this armor has such a small effect on damage that keeping gear procs is way better.

Why is the new super crafted BG gear only available by commision? I would have bought it off the broker, but BGs have been messed up so bad that I can't really be bothered to find a crafter to make a set just for me.

Delethen
07-19-2011, 06:07 PM

It isn't only by commission, there is stuff on the broker on permafrost for instance. The problem is however that the method it uses to deliver the armour is really quite poor. Not 100% certain, but at least my experience seemed to be that if you aren't a class that can use the armour you just made, the dialogue box wont open and it will be lost to the ether. Rather like in fact the situation that occurred when brawlers won the BP on a PQ event back before it got fixed.

Delethen
07-19-2011, 06:11 PM

Oh and also, when I made a set for my warden - every time you take a piece from the dialogue box, that piece is gone for the next time. So basically you can only make 1 set for yourself. Unless the flag resets if you delete / sell it thus allowing you to make another one.

I have the regular 90 pvp set (armor, jewelry, charms, cloak, weapons, myth buff, 300aa's in defense mode) and I'm 2 shotted with few exceptions. If you think getting this set will help you, it's even worse than I have, by far -- it won't help. It's a broken system.

The only BG gear worth crafting on PVE server (for 90+ BGs) is the DoV set. Almost as good as the DoV shard set minus 20 main stat/STA and a bit of CM.
