Does anyone use an SSD for eq2? Im looking to get one for my laptop and wondering if anyone noticed performance increases.

It only affects load times and texture pop-up. That said I love my SSD and overall performance is way up with it so I'd recommend getting one.

Load times when zoning will see some improvement. Overall performance probably not much to none, depending on how much pagefiling your setup requires. CPU speed and amount of ram are still the performance champs for EQ2.

yes, you'll love the performance of an SSD in EQ2, but it may not be what you think. What I noticed (I use an Intel 34mm 160gb, Win7x64, 8gb memory on a laptop cpu @ 1920x1200) is that even when the on-screen FPS drops to low numbers I do not get a balky/laggy sensation because all the textures are loading almost instantly so all the harddrive-induced lag is really gone. What didn't improve quite as much for me was loading and zoning, while it moves along you do still wait for all the various things to get done, nothing is instant.

I picked-up some extra FPS on certain griffon rides where there was so much texture loading going before my old harddrive was the limiting factor, now my video card receives data so much faster that I'm sure my current FPS is really tied to the videocard and other game factors. I've had an SSD since early Dec.09 so there is still time for downsides to appear but so far its been great having one.
