SK for DPS. They get a bit more of their DPS from spells rather than autoattack using weapons. Brawler for tanking. Brawlers don't rely as heavily on gear to provide the mitigation and avoidance. But these are fairly slight differences in gear dependence compared to other tanks. No tank is gonna be great without some good gear.

I would prolly say paladin is the least gear dependant w heals to offset the increased damage and amends to offset the poorer agro. Maybe gaurdian for tanking but thier agro is much harder w less gear. Actuality is all tanks are very gear dependant.

I would have to say that SK/Paladin are probably "less" gear dependent than say... brawlers and/or warriors. But make no mistake about it, you will want to gear out whatever tank you roll/recruit as well as possible.

Gear is important regardless of class.

On the whole if you're looking for a tank and did not want to care about gear grouping you are going to have a lot of problems. If you are serious about making a tank for a group you need to be serious in how you gear up.

I enjoy pugging a fair amount, and since I'm geared fairly well I've grouped with a lot of undergeared plate tanks. The only undergeared tank that can hold aggro off me reliably is a paladin. A paladin in heroic gear can hold aggro off of raid geared dps easily (so long as there's not more than one of them, heh), while pretty much any other tank struggles. Guardians are one of the worst to be undergeared with, I'd have to say.

I have 8 toons, including 2 tanks. The most gear dependant one is easily the guardian. The next is the SK. They both need to hold aggro and absorb damage. CAs can do a lot for the former, but good armour is needed for the later.
