View Full Version : Continued database corruption on EU servers is a scandal

The powers that be haven't shown themselves to be especially forward-thinking in regard to marketing or implementation lately, but what's happened on EU servers in the past week, at least non-English, really takes the cake. Since last Tuesday all item names have been corrupted. What do I mean? Every single in-game object, whether dropped or player-created, also NPC names, has been erroneously extended with a pair of brackets, inside of which often appears a completely random word pulled from the gameworld. I'll give you an example:

reine Kappe des Dilettanten (Neuestes Mitglied: Voller ACHTUNG !!! Die neuen Teamspeak Daten entnehmt bitte unserem Forum)

That's my T7 mastercrafted cloth cap, next to which stands part of the guild MotD from a week ago. All of this was totally hilarious at first, of course, but by now it's become tedious and even infuriating, since using the broker to sell anything takes quadruple the amount of time, and for the simple reason that during search the market window doesn't recognize these nonsense items unless their names have first been manually corrected! Links are also no longer clickable in chat.

I don't need to point out that, coming on the heels of the near-disaster that was the pre-release and launch of the latest expansion, this makes an especially poor impression. The incredibly ambivalent experience of enjoying EQ2 itself but time and again questioning its management and (non-)revision has absolutely got to end.

I especially dislike the fact that private information like teamspeak conenctions details like ip and pw are also leaked by this ...

Hello,

now we have 2 weeks left since the release of sf and we have so many bugs on the german servers its terrible really.

Links doesnt work, item names are broken and the biggest thing, private informations are inside item names, i see on the title of a item in the broker the teamspeak informations from a guild they are located on the server valor.

Some private informations inside the game (guild motd, ts data etc) are visible in the names of npc's, and so many more really critical bugs.

I wonder my self whats happened, i dont know why SOE dont fix this bugs i mean 2 WEEKS guys 2 weeks its enough to find a solution, sorry but i'm not really amused!

Sorry for the post here in the english forum but i think nobody reads the german forums from SOE...

P.S.

Sorry for the bad english i'm not a native speaker

While I don't have any direct involvement in the server maintenance/coding, I would suggest the /bug and /feedback commands as the best avenue for reporting this issue. At that point it will be seen by the devs and the QA team can try to reproduce the problems. Let me know if you have any questions.

Can someone please give us an ETA for a fix of the corrupted item and npc names database on Valor? It's been reported and bugged since SF release and still our CR tells us at the german forums that nobody has a clue what's the reason for this annoying and gamebreaking bug. Two weeks later and still no idea? Come on .... throw us a bone.

Although I find the way Kiara is treated to be pretty heinous, not to mention the generally hostile tone of threads in the past few weeks, I have to admit that it sometimes seems as though the only way to get a meaningful response from anybody around here is to post something fallacious and/or offensive. Alex, I'll take "vicious cycles" for $1000, please.

Two weeks, two weeks, two weeks, and nary a response from SOE, aside from an impact-muting transfer out of the general forum! I take a closer glance at my account status each time I spot somebody's TeamSpeak data in the name for a chunk of ore.

Shareana wrote:

Yes, as I said, I moved the thread. I had good intentions that it may get the eyes of someone that can inform those in charge of that server that something is wonky.

However, instead of pleading with those people, a new thread popped up. So now I close this thread.

I would suggest doing /bug and /feedback or even /petition to see if the GM's know anything, while in game to get the attention of the devs in charge of those servers.

I will also bring this to Kiara's attention, but I am not exactly sure what she can do about it

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=472712

Since the most recent thread in the general forum has now been closed, let's take it up once more here. Several remarks: what exactly does this say about the chain of command, at least where non-US servers are concerned? Secondly, doubtless dozens, if not hundreds, of bug-reports, angry feedbacks, and petitions have been filed in the past fifteen days, when the problem first cropped up. No concrete result, not even an acknowledgment from those tasked with programming and implementation, as of yet. Thirdly, this issue does not affect just one server, but at the very least both German servers, and possibly all EU servers. But I lack confirmation in this area.

Again, random data, often personal information such as TeamSpeak credentials, continues to appear alongside item, NPC, and even player names. Last night I saw a player whose name began "Lady (491 platinum) . . ." Classy things, these inexplicable and maddening bugs. Nothing game-breaking, to be sure, but I'd wager that more than a few have cancelled their subscription rather than spend forty minutes trimming names in the broker window. Again, at stake here is the overall impression produced by this sort of shortsightedness and neglect.

That, by the way, was well-earned criticism, not name-calling. Let's try to keep the tone respectful, in fact. On with the good-natured and never-ending "pleading"!

The problem is ... the DEVS KNOW. Shira who is the german community rep told us she bugs them, we have countless bug reports, petitions etc. According to Shira "The devs are very busy at the moment and will look into it when they have time to do so. Thanks for your patience.".

Well, this is not a SMALL bug and it is driving people away now, not just because of the bug but because of the statement "when we have time ...". People are angry as this isn't paid attention to NOW because they believe after the "no boxes for europe" sales desaster where Shira had to bug tremendously so we could get at least downloads we are left out as we are no americans.

And this isn't one server, it is two. Add on top that the german speaking servers are laggy since a looooong time which seems to be due to the reason that the hosting of those is not the same hosting as the american servers and worse. Last days I had even problems putting things into the broker or buying them, several seconds before items showed up and such.

The translations are always lagging behind and in several cases plain bad (I'm making a list of the abilities since GU53 changes at the moment and compare them with the english names, it is ridiculous what some of them actually mean and how they've been translated). The translation of things besides patchnotes is often in grammar and phrasing substandard and has become worse since Eovania left. And in many cases we just don't get informations AT ALL on the german page which are available on the US page. Trailers and other movies are always english anyway.

Second class treatment.
