I heard there was a lot of talk to balance the pets into appropriate roles prior to the expansion, and I must say that I notice a very significant improvement in the scout pet's performance.

However, my question is targetted to someone who's already had extensive raid experience with both the scout and mage pets, in their appropriate AA-specs. in a single-target situation.

I got the 16% flurry chance, and I notice the scout pet's dps to be quite sporadic, usually a flurry is roughly 4 auto attacks, and it gains monstrous benefits from melee-modifying buffs from berserkers, dirges, etc.

On the other hand you have the mage pet with a flat 10% spell DA chance, which has a tendency to be just as lethal as a flurry.

I'm also wondering if our scout pet will inherit melee buffs in a raid situation even if we're in the mage group? I heard some talk about this change to limit the number of enchanters/bards per raid.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Enchanters and bard buffs were not changed at all.

Even on single targets the Mage pet is supreme still, especially when you get the Enervated epic.

How about if I have a secondary slot item that boosts the pet's dps mod by 10? I noticed when he flurries, he typically hits for about 12k if each auto attack crits. Roughly 2.5k from the initial hit and 4 flurries follow, and ocassionally a double attack. There is also a 16 pct. chance for a flurry to proc off of a flurry, in theory they can go on infinitely. Compare that to the average mage pet's double attack on a spell and it won't hold up.

It seems that a mage pet may have more reliable dps, but the scout has the potential to overcome as the flurries are sporadic.

Parse it on the training dummy if you're unsure. But keep in mind that in a raid environment, or even instance groups you will likely NOT have melee buffs available for your pet, especially if it means a player in your group goes without.

The scout pet came ahead nearly every time, but I think this is in part due to the fact that training dummies have so few hit points that it's hard to get a good estimate. Scout pet did 11k, whereas the mythical did around 9-10, with the exception of one fight where I had a double attack EB.

Finish Epic Repercussions and switch to the mage pet.

For more accurate parses you want to summon three training dummies and kill them in rapid succession with no breaks inbetween.
