So I usually never post in the forums, but after this last update and now deciding to retire my ranger for the time being, I thought I would post my thoughts.

Why retire my ranger you ask. Well I pulled my Swashy out to play with him after the latest update, and he is running right behind where my rangers is in quest content. And I was in total disbelief at how my swashy just blew thru the same quests in less time. (He was killing a lot faster) I was able to take on some 3 ups and take them down no issue. I was also able to take 2 to 3 mobs on at a time instead of 1 at a time. Now no numbers but the parse did confirm I was dps-ing a lot higher than my Ranger. Both wearing the same level MC equipment and weapons.

I was very very sad to see this. Being an almost 5 year Ranger player and fan.

So I retired my Ranger for now.

Decided to jump over to the Swashy forums and as I'm reading thru the forums what I notice is Dev's jumping in all the time to leave comments.

Again I was sad to see this.

So what I see is a total lack of concern from the Dev's about our class. When a developer can jump in two times on a thread only two pages long, yet we get nothing.

I do give credit for all of you that are sticking with it, but for me it's off to swish swashy land.

One last note go look at other scout forums they are actually positive, might cheer you up to see how well our fellow scouts are doing.

MY next T1 dps: http://www.swtor.com/info/holonet/classes/smuggler if SOE does not get it straight!!

Still paid up until 07/2010 but I no longer play EQ2. And I don't anticipate anything getting fixed enough for me to start back up before my subscription runs out. I gave up a raid slot I have had for years and cannot see the use of my guild holding my sopt open while I am stuck at lvl 80 and 200aa (I refuse to buy software that is targeted to lessen my enjoyment). My more detailed reasons are stated in other threads here and in several other places. I have other toons including a fairly well equipped assassin but I just do not enjoy the game on anything other than my ranger. I would rather quit than switch and did so.

I gave up on my ranger about 6 months ago, having stuck with the character since launch (due to my bloody minded nature) but there are so many things broke, no dev attention, lack of group desireability, and ultimately a one trick (and not very good at it) pony. Yes, admittedly, in the correct circumstance you can hold your own ds wise but you are too dependant on things outside your control.

Ultimately, having played rangers basically forever.. I think my first was a D&D character 30 years ago... through to EQ1 where a ranger was a proper hybrid - a multipurpose class that could MT a raid, do good ranged damage, and even buff and heal, through to this 'pure dps class' whose DPS is so situational you can barely ever use it to full potential.

My advice? there is still fun to be had in this game, especially if you have good friends / good server community. Play a different class. Play a Paladin... its rather like being a ranger in EQ1; you can do a bit of everything and still be a viable raid MT. These days you can even carry a bow as a crusader. Or play a dirge, can use a bow, a few specialist ranged attacks, excellent kiting ability (knocks spots off a ranger), not to mention all those group buffs.

Being a ranger is a state of mind, not some poxy godforsaken class defined by the EQ2 dev team. If you carry a bow, fight flexibly, be where you need to be (swapping between spot healing / crowd control / dps / debuffing) , you're a ranger. You can do all of that better as another class.
