Over a year ago I bought a new graphics card, a Nvidea GeForce 6800 GT, for somewhat of an upgrade of my old one. I installed the card and downloaded the newest drivers.

Unfortunately, the card brought a whole bunch of problems with regards of EverquestII, which progressively ended up in a black screen after 2 minutes of playing. After a lot of searching on the forums, I found out that this was a known issue and there was no solution but to roll back the driver and install an old one. The game ran fine after that, but it was a shame because I couldn't enjoy the game to it's fullest potential, graphic wise.

With the latest expansion, I'm hearing a lot about a Nvidea update, although I'm not sur exactly what as this is a little too technical for me.

Does anyone know perhaps, if this issue was solved and that I can safely download the latest drivers now?

I'm a little hesitant to do so as I'm not sure if I would be able to find the old driver I have installed now. It was not even an official Nvidea driver because that was not available anymore. So I really need to make sure the problem has actually solved. If not and I do install the latest driver, I might as well buy a new graphics card.

Any help in this is very much appreciated!

Greetings,

The only Nvidia driver versions that I would recommend avoiding would be the 190 and 191 series drivers. Generally, I recommend using either the 186 drivers or the most recent drivers at this point. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Okay so you are saying that the problem has been fixed in the mean time?

When I go to the Nvidia website and do a check for updates, I get the following:

Current installed driver: 169.44

Latest driver update: GeForce/ION Release 196Version: 196.21 WHQL

Do you think I can safely install this one?

Product

CurrentInstalled Driver

Latest DriverUpdate

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

169.44

GeForce/ION Release 196Version: 196.21 WHQLRelease Date: 19.1.2010

Product

CurrentInstalled Driver

Latest DriverUpdate

NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT

169.44

GeForce/ION Release 196Version: 196.21 WHQLRelease Date: 19.1.2010
