Theres a retired general in Paineel and also all the "void touched" ones in Erudin gardens are the old style too.
according to an erudite at Quel'Thul, the Great Feedback is what changed the erudites int what they are today. and while apparently the shockwave from the Feedback was cross planar, some erudites it turned into the 'new' version, some it flat out killed, others it corrupted with void energy...it's like it riped through the planes and struck all the Erudites, but it's effects where completely random on them.

Not at all. It talks of Erud founding the race and the city of Erudin, the War of the Heretics, and then ot tells of the Erudites adapting to the Shattered Lands in the city of Qeynos. No mention of their transformation.

yea if i remember correctly Dartain was dabbling in some spell that would allow him to absorb the essence of another person/being and when the time came he chose to absorb Al'Kabor the most powerful mage to walk norrath but instead of just taking on Al'Kabor's power/essence he absorbed that and his soul and conciousness, yes my spelling sucks, and due to this they kinda fought over who would control the body but they made some kind of pact so now they just alternate and are now known as the duality since they are kinda 2 people in 1 body
