I played EQ1 for 7 years , the last 5 of that on FV. I messed around on other MMOs for the last 4 years or so. I just recently started EQ2 and have been looking at getting back into RPing. I remade my Paladin from EQ1 and have been slowly leveling him. My question comes in here ... can anyone recommend a site , or even a topic here if I missed it , where I can mainly focus on lore changes between EQ1 and EQ2?

I remember alot of the EQ1 lore and it is easily explained why my character wouldn't know about things in the 500 years between EQ1 and EQ2 so mainly I am focusing on the changes.

Welcome to the game. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have over the years.

hehe oh boy, where to begin.

Well, I've always been a believer that the best way to learn is through actual experience, but if you really want to just dive in, I recommend you start with the lore Athaeneum. It has every in-game book found in the game as well as some lore revelations relating to the lore community here on the forums.

http://www.lorelibrary.com/

The Tome of Destiny, which I hope you watched when you started your character, gives a brief explanation of what happened in the last 500 years. Back when EQ2 first started, us adventurers were plucked out of the ocean and quickly explained what was going on. The captain of the vessel was taking us to an island to get back on our feet, when a Drakota suddenly attacked and then flew off. The captain passed it off as a stroke of luck that more damage hadn't been caused.

When we reached level 50, we'd soon find out that a dragon named Darathar had wiped our memories clean. He had given everyone amnesia and stripped them clean of everything they had. It was all part of his plan to pursuade us into stealing more prismatic eggs from Nagafen. Yeah.. he and Vox got it on in the last 500 years. The eggs haven't hatched, but he had Vox killed off by Drakota Assassins, whom he had complete control over. He wanted to raise another Kerafyrm.

Nagafen had a sharper silver tongue and pursuaded us to kill Darathar first, which we did. Our destinies are our own now, and for quite a while now, new characters have been able to just start off as the class they wanted. We used to have to choose an archetype, then a class, and then finally a sub-class as we leveled up.

Players like yourself, who start off as the class you want to be, in your case a paladin, have every right to roleplay that you have complete memory of your past. If you're an Elven race, you can even be old enough to have been around back then. There are Dark Elves, High Elves, Halflings, Iksar, and a few other select individuals who existed back in EQlive and are still around now.

Welcome to EQ2

I second the suggestion to read the stickies here, the Age of Destiny Timeline is stellar for catching up on what's happened after the split of the two games.

Also, hardly anyone plays ancient elves, even though it's perfectly within the lore. I'd love to see some more around to RP with.

IMO the most important thing to remember between EQ1 lore and EQ2 lore is the following: after the slaying of Quarm in the Plane of Time in the PoP expansion, anything that happened in EQ1 might have happened in the EQ2 consistency, but doesn't need to have happened. This is explained through the in-game book The Words of Zebuxoruk (the link is to "The Athenaeum" website which has its text in full). Beyond that, many other things about the Lore are interesting, and some even go back into far pre-EQ1 times, which should be 100% consistent between the games. But any events after Planes of Power are only possibly canon in EQ2. An example of something that did NOT happen in EQ2's universe is the whole GoD/OoW invasion from discord. Something that DID happen is Mayong Mistmoore becoming a God which was definitely after PoP (except now in EQ2 he has since decided to "descend" back to immortality, rather than godhood).

So EQ2 devs can pick and choose what "did" happen in their universe, rather than saying "nothing did" or "everything did" from expansions after PoP.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and the information , I will start reading through the stuff from the link tonight. I built up alot of history RP wise with Janthos while playing on FV (EQ1) and didn't want to lose it. No one else will remember him but it at least gives me a place to start.

Meleah , I am playing on AB actually so anytime you are around Qeynos please feel free to give me a yell.

I was off to another world for a while but I recently returned for the expansion. (and the lore discussions)

Eriol wrote:

An example of something that did NOT happen in EQ2's universe is the whole GoD/OoW invasion from discord.

There is a possible reference to the invasion in EQ2. So, don't write it off yet.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...34
